Supporting the communities where we are based plays a key role for all of us at Gallagher. Throughout June, our UK colleagues dedicated over 1,200 hours of their time to volunteer. We were delighted to see so many of our colleagues going out and giving back to their local communities and supporting important causes. Some of our team volunteering highlights for June include: ➡️Our Gallagher Gives Back workstream colleagues volunteered at Bristol Harbour where they worked with Sustainable Hive to do some plastic fishing. The team had a great day on the harbour and managed to collect over 30kg of rubbish from the harbour. Emma Sheron, ESG Manager, EMEA, said: “Our team really enjoyed the day volunteering and working with Sustainable Hive. It was brilliant to see everyone pulling together and helping to make a difference, not just to the local area but also to the environment.” ➡️Our Glasgow branch supported Young Enterprise Scotland to help young people learn, develop and succeed through enterprise and financial education. Our team in Glasgow helped out by painting one of the outdoor classrooms and clearing weeds from the outdoor space. Donna Beckett, Account Handler, at our Glasgow Office, said: “We had a really enjoyable day volunteering with Young Enterprise Scotland at their Rouken Glen site. It was great to spend time with colleagues from the Glasgow office, and we managed to dodge the rain for most of the day.” ➡️Our charities team volunteered with BACA Charity which supports young people who have been forced to flee their countries by providing safe homes, education, and therapeutic care so they can become thriving members of their community. The team helped out by tidying one of the charity’s community gardens in Leicestershire. Ben Harris Mid-Market Team Leader, Charity & Healthcare, said: “It was great to meet our at Baca Charity for a second year and to tackle another garden. It was a perfect time of the year to be outside and it coincided with Refugee Week. It’s starting to become a fun annual tradition getting stuck into transforming their outside spaces so their young people can enjoy.” Thank you to all our colleagues who continue to make a difference by supporting their communities! #GallagherGivesBack

Did you know it’s #GroundsWeek 🌿 As we celebrate the beauty of our surroundings and the importance of maintaining green spaces, we’re also reflecting on how we can enhance our #CharityAdmin through sustainable practices. Here's some tips on how: 1️⃣ Cultivate a healthy environment – just as we tend to our grounds to promote lush greenery, effective #CharityAdmin creates an environment where our team can thrive, fostering collaboration, creativity and innovation. 2️⃣ Rooted in Community – as most of our organisations are focused on community. As the sun rises on Earth Day 2024 I have mixed emotions. Over the weekend I dug into #The2024GivingReport from #CanadaHelps. Thank you for this critical tool. As a fundraiser for #EvergreenCanada, an environmental charity focused on transforming public places in our cities for the health of people and our planet, there's lots to be frustrated and anxious about, such as this alarming statistic: "32 percent of Canadians say climate change or protecting our environment is a top cause for them, and almost half (48 percent) of Canadians express anxiety about climate change on at least somewhat of a regular basis....Yet, only 1.5 percent of donations through CanadaHelps are made to environmental charities." But the report also rightly points to the power of social connection and hope to galvanize giving to environmental causes, and, in fact, to all charities. Rather than stoking fear and alarm all the time and pointing fingers at each other, let's realize we need to come together. We need each other to solve the big, thorny problems of our day. And the magic is when we are truly connected. At Evergreen, we are working to bring people together in real life in green public spaces that can be joyful and restorative, peaceful and vibrant. Improving public spaces can have profound impact on social, mental, physical, and environmental health. This Earth Day consider reading this report and thinking about the ways you can bring people together, and help us create better public places. We are turning our cities from grey to green. Won't you come join us? I look forward to meeting you there! https://lnkd.in/g4jt3aXU

What a fantastic reflection about the perceived decline of volunteering, the impact collective feelings can have on our society, and the acknowledgment that giving our time/energy/resources to others is also able (and should be allowed!) to be helpful for ourselves. 💜 Here is my favorite snippet: “It’s not considered socially acceptable to tout personal benefits derived from charitable acts. It’d be unusual to hear volunteers say they’re going to a soup kitchen to improve their self-esteem. Perhaps this is because those gains suggest that there are more selfish motivations for behaviors we want to think of primarily as selfless. But wealthy philanthropists don’t seem shy about citing their self-interest, and often say their humanitarian work leaves them with deep feelings of pleasure, optimism, and agency. It struck me as rather sad that those of us who are not billionaires may have convinced ourselves that volunteering or fundraising was mostly a waste of time. When did I become someone who placed such exhausting value on optimizing my time, anyway?“ AND here are some organizations I love being part of that provide me space for all of these opportunities and feelings: Generation SERVE 💙 Volunteering Untapped ATX 💛 Clinton School of Public Service 🤍 Leadership Austin 🩵
Over the last 15 years, ideas crystallized among my generation that real social change would come only from mass protest and collective action. Volunteering, donating, and modifying one’s behavior were, at best, unproductive; at worst, harmful distractions from the change we really need. I wrote an essay for Vox about the costs of these ideas, and why I changed my mind: https://lnkd.in/eDxfxehy

It was an incredibly fulfilling day to volunteer at The Passage in London, and it was inspiring to see our London team members step up to support this great cause. It has been rewarding to grow Compre's Community Involvement as part of our ESG Roadmap this year. We are in the process of connecting more widely with local communities, with the help of our local team members in all of #Compre's global locations. We can all get so caught up in our daily work routines that we forget about the impact and influence a little help can have on the life trajectory of those around us, family, friends, colleagues, and, the wider community. We can all make a difference to our space on the planet. In addition, did you know that research indicates that those who consistently help other people experience less depression, greater calm, fewer pains and better health? The wellbeing impact of offering volunteer initiatives to your employees and teams as well as the wider community can't be ignored. 📢 I am excited for what the future holds in this space, How are you helping someone today? #ESG #helpinghand #community
Community Involvement On Wednesday 18th September, a few of our colleagues from the London team took part in a kitchen takeover for our London charity partner, The Passage. The team then headed down to the kitchen to start the prep for lunch and meet the chefs. The team worked diligently from 10 AM - 3:30 PM, preparing a lovely lunch of the roast dinner. Our #Compre team members discovered their hidden talents as chefs, chopping vegetables, seasoning food and creating a delicious fruit salad. The day was filled with smiles as the team helped feed almost 100 people who rely on a hot meal from The Passage. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience to be able to assist and contribute to the community. We look forward to more volunteering initiatives in the future. It is great to see community involvement growing as part of our ESG Roadmap at Compre Group. A big shout out to all our Compre volunteers, as well as Theo Fox and Alexandra M. from The Passage. Connect with either of them if you are interested in volunteering opportunities. The impact made on homelessness in London through their long-term support stretches far beyond just offering shelter and a hot meal - Learn more about The Passage Charity and their incredible work here: The Passage Simon Hawkins, Marina Fourie, Camille Rene - Waterhouse, Hollie Bishop, Juliet Drake (she/her), Jeremy Fisher, Madeleine Walo, Iyanuoluwa A., and Natasha Saunders #wevalueachother #growwithus #ESG #communityinvolvement #volunteering

We began our journey in 2023 by committing over 1000 corporate volunteering hours towards various ecological and social charities, including HandsOn London and Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust, in line with our social targets as set out in the report. It represents a crucial milestone in developing a more supportive and ethical culture that prioritises our staff and the community and embeds our goals into the core of our company. “We understand that thriving businesses and thriving communities are interdependent. When the community prospers, so do we.” – Kathryn Rowe Download our 2023 Social Report to learn more about our ESG journey: #ESG #Sustainability #Community #Development #social #government #environmental #teamlmg #lmgiq #corporatevolunteering #charity
