#History The Anglican Church was the first church established in Igbo communities, marking a significant milestone in the region’s history. The Anglican mission arrived in Igboland in 1857, with Onitsha as the first spot of missionary propagation. Reverend J.C. Taylor, an ex-Igbo slave and a convert from Sierra Leone, led the mission. After negotiations with the Onitsha reigning monarch, Akazua, the British established trading posts and the mission station started. The Onitsha king allocated land for the headquarters of the mission station. The Anglican Church however, played a crucial role in abolishing harmful cultural practices that were prevalent in Igbo society. Through its teachings and advocacy, the church helped to promote human rights and dignity. Furthermore, the church’s presence in Igbo communities fostered social cohesion and unity. The church served as a gathering place for worship, fellowship, and community events. The Anglican Church also contributed to the economic development of Igbo communities. The church established various projects and initiatives that provided employment opportunities and improved the standard of living for the people. In addition to its spiritual and social impact, the church also played a role in preserving Igbo culture and traditions. The church recognized the value of Igbo cultural practices and worked to incorporate them into its teachings and practices. The church’s commitment to community development has however, continued to this day. The Anglican Church in Igboland invests in healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation projects to address the needs of the people. Despite the challenges, the Anglican Church remains vital in Igbo communities. Its impact on the social, cultural, and economic development of Igbo society is undeniable. In conclusion, the Anglican Church has significantly shaped Igbo communities since the 19th century. The Anglican Church has left an indelible mark on the Igbo people through education, social welfare, and community development. Additionally, as the church continues to evolve, the Anglican Church remains a beacon of hope and progress in Igboland. Visit ogbonoblog.com for more Exclusive contents

Senior Generosity Strategist...Generis, Where More than $17 Billion Has Been Raised for Worthy Causes Worldwide
I agree wholeheartedly with your perspective, #AlanWildes. #Fear and #obligation have been twin sisters in motivating #generosity in the context of #churchfundraising within which I do most of my consultation. Fortunately, with the slow realization among #churchleaders that using hell as a means of scaring people into acceptable religious behavior patterns or using "obligations" - as if God is going to punish you if you ever miss a weekly worship service - to motivate people to fill a pew or to give generously have proven to be bankrupt motivators. Oh, you can use these methods to seek to control the right actions, and many #churches, #churchleaders, #pastors, and #christiandenominations do. However, the outcomes never produce enduring results or meaningful lifestyle changes. I share Carey N.'s perspective. There are many ways people are engaged. That's where church leaders should begin to nurture #spiritualgrowth and involvement. I enjoy serving with you, Alan, on the #GenerisTeam. Take a look at Alan's important words here.
Engagement in churches has changed since 2020. Has the lack of engagement impacted giving in your church? Here are my thoughts. https://lnkd.in/ezZtj-Z6 #communityintersect

Would you say YES to the Y? I did. ✋ You would, too, if you check out the YMCA of Hamilton|Burlington|Brantford's new strategic plan for 2024-28. At the board table, we call it the YES strategy. The focus? Youth, Employees and Seniors. YES! For a charity serving communities across three municipalities, strong internal capability (employees) is essential to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of people, from youth (under 30) to older adults (seniors). This plan was a year in the making, with board members, senior staff, employees and community partners engaged at different points during the process. For the past 2-3 years, many organizations have had to put a pause on long-term plans and focus on the immediate COVID-19 crisis in front of them. That's why this strategic plan is a point of pride for the Y of HBB; it's the first fulsome strategic plan as the organization recovers and rebuilds from the pandemic. So, do say YES to the Y. ⬇
We’re thrilled to share Igniting Potential to Save Lives – our new Strategic Plan that will guide our YMCA over the next five years. Read on to learn more about our visionary roadmap designed to ignite potential in the lives of young people, our employees and seniors. 🔍 Breaking Down Ableism in the Church: Why It Matters 🏛️ Ableism - it's a term you might have heard, but what does it mean, and why should you care? 🤔 Ableism refers to the discrimination and exclusion of individuals with disabilities within societal systems, including our beloved churches. It's about when the physical, emotional, and social needs of everyone aren't equally considered. So, why does this matter? Because the church is a place of love, community, and acceptance, but when it's not accessible to all, it sends a message that some are less valued. By addressing ableism in the church, we can create a more inclusive, welcoming, and loving community for everyone. It's about living out our values and truly embracing diversity. 🙌💖 Let's make our churches spaces where all are celebrated, no matter their abilities. Together, we can make a difference! 💪 #AbleismAwareness #InclusivityInChurch #EmbraceDiversity
