👉 Kelowna Plans to Increase DCCs by 2.4% in 2025 The City of Kelowna plans to increase development cost charges (DCCs) by 2.5% in 2024, aligned with the Consumer Price Index. DCCs fund infrastructure like roads, water, and parks. The city’s current DCC program will fund 234 projects through 2040 costing $1.33 billion. 65% of this cost will be covered by DCCs. I had the pleasure of attending the Queensland Major Contractors Association (QMCA)'s Brisbane launch of the 2024 Queensland Major Projects Pipeline Report. An event packed full of insightful comments, thought provoking panels and a touch of drama! It is clear that the next five years in Queensland will be a busy time. There is a substantial increase in the value of major projects in Queensland up to $103.9 billion over the next five years (compared with $92 billion in the previous year). The government is investing heavily in electricity generation projects while the traditional investment areas of rail and road are also seeing increases in investment. Interestingly, projects in regional areas are primarily focused on electricity generation and heavy industries whereas roads, rails, bridges and ports are the focus in SEQ. There are some clear risks to the major projects pipeline (which you can read about further in the QMCA's report) but overall, the construction industry in Queensland is set for a busy period over the next decade - including providing sufficient infrastructure to support and deliver the Brisbane 2032 Olympics. Te Waihanga Acting Chief Executive Geoff Cooper spoke at Infrastructure New Zealand's annual Building Nations conference last week about how we can tackle our infrastructure challenges by better looking after what we’ve already got.     90% of our infrastructure has been built since 1950. Over half has been built in just the last three decades. That means a wall of renewals is now on our doorstep and is taking up a greater share of our spend. Renewals made up 43% of all local government infrastructure spending in 2013 and in 2026 it will be 52%. Kick the can – and it will only get more expensive. This is just one of the issues we’ll be looking at through our work on the National Infrastructure Plan. Rocky View County's (RVC) ambitious joint transportation hub venture with the City of Calgary, the Prairie Gateway Project, has received approval to move forward from the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB), reported the Airdrie City View. "A statement released on Nov. 27 by RVC confirmed the CMRB's unanimous approval of the Rocky View County and City of Calgary transload facility project. According to RVC's documents, the Area Structure Plan east of Langdon will facilitate a “large-scale rail-served industrial centre benefiting from access and proximity to the railway through radiating spur lines south of Township Road 232.” "The Area Plan includes about 1,800 acres of land in the southeast part of the County, with a portion of it falling within the City of Calgary and the RVC Intermunicipal Development Plan area, which County documents identify as a “growth corridor” for the City of Calgary." https://lnkd.in/gjiDJH5v #calgary #industrial #development

👷♀️👷♂️Work is underway now to develop the 30-year National Infrastructure Plan which will outline New Zealand’s infrastructure needs over the next 30 years. The plan will consist of four components: ✅ An Infrastructure Needs Assessment which provides analysis of New Zealand’s long-term needs – and what NZ can afford – across the next 5-30 years. ✅ A strengthened National Infrastructure Pipeline which will provide a national view of upcoming projects in the next ten years. ✅ The Infrastructure Priorities Programme (IPP) which will involve a structured independent review of unfunded projects and initiatives, and ✅ Priority reforms, which will improve the way NZ selects, invest in, deliver and maintains infrastructure. From 1 December, Crown Infrastructure Partners (CIP) will be repurposed to be the new National Infrastructure Agency (NIA).
