Happy World Youth Skills Day 2024! On this World Youth Skills Day, I reflect on the progress and challenges in achieving SDG 4. The 2024 Sustainable Development Goals progress report shows encouraging strides, with girls' completion rates exceeding boys' by 2 to 3 percentage points in both primary and secondary education globally. However, the report also highlights a critical issue: one in five young people are not in employment, education, or training. Even more alarming is the plight of Afghan girls, who face severe educational challenges and restrictions. World Youth Skills Day is Coming Up! World Youth Skills Day is coming up on the 15th of July, and we want you to join us in celebrating this day on Monday! At AVBS, we are dedicated to upskilling youth in disadvantaged communities across Africa and beyond. Did you know? Young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults, facing greater labour market inequalities, and longer, more insecure school-to-work transitions. Women, in particular, are often underemployed, under-paid, and working part-time or temporary jobs. That's why education and training are crucial for success in the labour market. Sadly, many existing systems fail to meet the learning needs of young people. Surveys show that a significant number of youth have low levels of achievement in basic literacy and numeracy. Skills and jobs for youth are key components of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. SDG target 4.4 calls for a substantial increase in the number of youth and adults with relevant skills. At AVBS, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. Join us as we work towards a brighter future for all young people.
