With new technologies at forefront, we have seen a number of wearables & other tech devices tracking number of useful parameters at plasma level. One of the growing tech pieces is smart rings which could measure stuff such as Heart Rate Variability(HRV) & sleep patterns. Research has also found that gut-brain axis has a role to play in HRV & people having IBD have low HRV While HRV is a good measure to learn about our stress response, sleep patterns & inflammatory cascades, it leaves a great gap. What is the actionable once you know your HRV is low? What dietary changes should you make ?  How can you regulate this score? To find answers to these questions, it is important to understand & measure various pathways at molecular level which impacts HRV. What could cause low HRV? -Is it LPS Production? -Low GABA Production? -Elevated uric acid production? -Histamine Overproduction? -Low Nitric Oxide production? -Low Butyrate Production? Until we know which specific pathway or combination of pathways is causing HRV & what specific mechanisms of action is required to regulate the score , tracking HRV through these new age smart rings is of no use Similarly just tracking your sleep is half baked cake.
