Spring Village was lit with excitement as over 25 community leader met yesterday, 5th December 2024 to discuss issues relating to "eco-tourism, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture and sustainable livelihoods". The workshop was implanted as part of the JEMS CANARI CEPF Climate Risk Mapping Project - Capacity Building Training activities. Participants discussed the threats of climate change on the Cumberland Watershed, the severity of the impacts on the livelihoods of the community and the strategies required to build the resilience and enhanced the sustainable livelihoods of the community. The community agreed to explore the possibilities of re-establishing a community organisation (SUDO) dormant for over a decade as a vehicle for enhance entrepreneurship and community sustainable development. The project was supported by a small grants from the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute Critial Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CANARI CEPF. The series of capacity building training workshops were coordinated by Ancelma Morgan Rose. Garfield Charles, retired Head Teacher was responsibe for mobilising the community of Spring Village to participate in the workshop.

Financial sustainability is a cornerstone of conservation efforts that extend beyond protecting ecosystems to fostering community resilience and economic growth. In places like Yanachaga Chemillen National Park and the San Matías San Carlos Protected Forest, Perú, diverse funding mechanisms are being explored to ensure long-term impact.   International cooperation, carbon credit programs, and national funding sources are key components of these strategies. Additionally, entrepreneurial activities supported by local partners enhance self-sufficiency and contribute to sustainable development within Indigenous communities.   These approaches highlight the importance of integrating financial mechanisms to strengthen the conservation of natural areas while promoting socio-economic benefits for surrounding communities and Indigenous Peoples. A balanced, multi-faceted strategy is essential for ensuring the sustainability of these vital ecosystems. #ActForForests #SaveForestsNow

The purpose of Venture for Nature is to further bridge the gap between society and the natural world. Through it, I will offer various types of tours, with 10% of the profits directed towards conservation and nature restoration efforts - these funds will support initiatives organized by the project, while also contributing to other NGOs dedicated to protecting the wilderness. Venture for Nature will serve as a platform where I can utilize not only my knowledge to make a difference in ecologically degraded areas where I can involve people directly; but also my creativity, where, through film and social media, I aim to expand education for the benefit of the environment. Venture for Nature will facilitate panel discussions, talks and other events, to further inspire more people to contribute to the preservation of the natural world.
