My Life-Changing Experience at NYSC Orientation Camp
They say,“The Journey of a thousand miles starts with a step”, and I might have just done that.
A step in obeying the clarion call to serve my father’s land.
Most people see it as a normal passage before entering the workforce but I can't help but reflect on my own transformative experience at the NYSC Orientation Camp.
Those three weeks were more than just a rite of passage—they were a journey of self-discovery, growth, and friendship that shaped the course of my life in ways I never imagined.
From the moment I arrived at camp, I was immersed in activities I wasn’t ever used to, from physical exercises to skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development (SAED) programs.
I was constantly reminded it was a regimented camp, so rules were to be adhered to at the right time.
Each day brought new challenges and opportunities to learn, adapt, and connect with fellow corps members from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
But beyond the physical rigors and the hustle and bustle of camp life, I’m grateful for the opportunities that presented itself at that time.
Had the opportunity to represent in the inter-platoon debate competition, with an eye-opening topic, “Mentoring Secondary School Leavers(NEET) in your host community: A Call to Leadership.
This topic left me with a profound knowledge of what needs to be done in our society.
Also, participated in the SAED programs majoring in Ankara crafts and fascinators.
It was a wonderful experience indeed seeing people exhibiting their God-given talents and putting their all into the effectiveness of their work.
Looking back, I realize that NYSC Orientation Camp was more than just a mandatory requirement—it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone, embrace new experiences, and forge lifelong friendships.
As you prepare to embark on your own NYSC journey, I encourage you to embrace every moment and approach it with an open mind and a willingness to learn.
If you ever have any questions or need advice as you navigate your NYSC journey, please don't hesitate to reach out.
