The 2024 Secretary-General Annual Report provides a great overview of the scientific research being undertaken by contractors under the International Seabed Authority’s exploration regime and shows just how far we have come in our understanding of the deep-sea in the past two decades alone. "A close look at the data collected by ISA shows a steady increase in investment in exploration activities, particularly over the last eight years. In the period between 2001 and 2022, over USD331 million was spent on environmental studies, USD346 million on technology development and around USD9 million on training activities, which involved over 300 trainees, including 132 women. Since the signature of the first exploration contracts, a total of USD1.8 billion has been expended on exploration." #Midwestern state and provincial legislators are invited to a one-and-a-half-day workshop to gain an understanding about #criticalminerals, their end uses, the importance of regional supply chains, and related public policies in #NorthAmerica. 🚨 Concern: 'Professional' Title Integrity 🚨 There is growing opposition to the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC Technology Professionals) proposal to replace the "Applied Science Technologist" (AScT) title with "Professional Technologist" (PTech). This change threatens to dilute the meaning of "professional" and may mislead the public regarding the credentials and expertise of those holding this designation. Unlike ASET | The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta's P.Tech.(Eng.), the "PTech" title does not adhere to the same rigorous standards that ensure professional integrity. It is crucial to maintain strict standards for professional titles to uphold their value and public trust.
