A.I. project Leaf.IQ Our competition-winning photosynthesis model for lower energy consumption and higher yields The Leaf.iQ project at Humboldt University of Berlin represents a significant advancement in resource-efficient cultivation practices within the field of cannabis research. Employing AI-controlled lighting that meticulously adjusts both the intensity and spectral composition in real-time, the project pioneers in modeling the photosynthetic activity of cannabis plants with unprecedented precision. This innovative approach ensures optimal growth conditions while minimizing energy consumption using the sensor from Hortiya. The project’s excellence was recognized at the Forum Junge Spitzenforschung, where Leaf.iQ secured the second place, highlighting its role as a innovative application in sensor technology and data analysis for plant science. On Monday, we celebrated Systems Biology at PD-value. We celebrated our growing team, new projects, and the contribution we are making to the field. We also acknowledged and emphasized the potential impact on patients lives, although our work is done at the very early stages of drug development. It is important to remember that everything we do, we do for patients together with our clients, even it is sometimes another decade on the line. We enjoyed the drinks and snacks, of course, but more so the time we spent as a team and the quiz game prepared by Lill Eva Johansen with fun science and general knowledge questions. We congratulate the winning team: Anke Kip, Asina G., Csaba Katai, Jeroen Elassaiss-Schaap and Zeyar Mohammed Ali. Celebrating is not just about reveling in success; it is about recognizing the collective efforts and dedication which can be easily overlooked sometimes. Celebrating good things also fosters a positive and vibrant workplace culture, motivates the team, and reinforces the belief that every contribution, big or small, plays a vital role in our shared story. We want to thank all the team members for getting together and being great sports. It’s that time of year again! MichBio’s President and CEO Stephen Rapundalo, PhD, and representatives from members Ann Arbor-based public health organization NSF Int’l, Grand Rapids/Kzoo-based early-stage company Interactome Bio, and law firm Dykema are on their way to Washington, D.C. for the annual BIO Fly-In, and two days of legislative briefings and advocacy. They’ll engage with staff (and in some cases Members) in offices of Michigan’s U.S. Senators Stabenow and Peters, and those of all of Michigan’s U.S. Representatives. The impact of the life sciences to the Michigan and U.S. economy and important legislative policy issues facing the biosciences industry will be discussed - like repealing R&D tax amortization rules, impacts to drug development as a consequence of the IRA law, threats to innovation and IP protection by invoking march-in rights under the Bayh-Dole Act, and much more.
