Transformation and Value Creation Leader | Leveraging a global and broad experience base to make a difference
Great overview of how Francisco Arredondo, MD MPH - Paco - and his team at Pozitivf Fertility are increasing access and affordability of building a family via IVF by leveraging #Lean and #complexity reduction. See comments for rest of article. Dr. Francisco Arredondo lowers cost of IVF treatment in San Antonio, with inspiration from Toyota If you ask Dr. Francisco Arredondo what the key is to providing fertility treatment more affordably, he'll start talking about Toyota. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Arredondo studied the Japanese automaker's famous lean management system, which calls for honing a production process until it is as efficient as possible. In 2022, he helped found Pozitivf Fertility, a fertility clinic on the North Side, where he applies that principle to providing in-vitro fertilization treatment. While IVF typically costs upwards of $15,000, Pozitivf provides the service starting at $7,995, Arredondo said. "Without compromising quality, without compromising safety," he said. "The industry has told most of these people, 'It's not for you. You can't afford it.' The model of our company is we really believe that having a healthy child is a universal human right.'' The clinic, which has has 17 employees and a satellite location in Brownsville, recently raised $20 million in funding, largely from investment firm MonCap, to grow its network. Arredondo hopes to open three more clinics in the next three to five years, he said. Hailing from Matamoros, Mexico, across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Arredondo was part of the team that performed the first IVF in Mexico in 1989. He received much of his education and has spent much of his career in the U.S. He earned a master's degree in healthcare management from Harvard University and was an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University. For four years, he practiced medicine in rural Kentucky. Feeling an entrepreneurial itch, he started a practice in San Antonio, which he sold a couple months before the outbreak of the pandemic. He founded Pozitivf with Dr. Tony Anderson, another IVF specialist. Q: Your firm seeks to make fertility treatments more widely available. Why is that important? A: Despite what people think, what this country needs is people. We've been so good at birth control that now we're in trouble. You can look at Europe, Italy, Japan, Spain; everybody has big trouble in their population pyramid. In the United States, we have a fertility rate of 1.7; this means that each woman on average has 1.7 babies. What the WHO and the UN recommends is 2.1. So we're way below already. In 50 years, we will have six times more people above 80 years old because of the improvement in quality of life and medicine, but we will have 50% fewer kids under 10 years of age. You require three working people to sustain one retiree. The biggest threat to humankind is not nuclear war, is not environmental change; it is nothingness.
The company I work for in the news. So proud of this amazing project. https://lnkd.in/gFtGBPs2

Your why and your how have to align.
It always starts with intentionality. Ask the “why” to then identify the “how.” At PROUDLY • for melanated babies, our mission has always been to have our "why" match our "how" through deliberate partnerships, research, and community outreach. Our products are only formulated by medical experts and chemists with decades of experience to improve the well-being of Black and Brown babies. Never fear asking the questions you want answers to and if there’s no alignment you’ve found your new “why.” via: Fast Company

This is a case where the participant actually identified an issue and called to resolve it. In reality, we would have flagged this claim and caught the card transaction issue because OCA substantiates 100% of all transactions (as required by code). This is a great example of why employers should use a TPA that follows the law. Doing so, protects the employer and the participant, not the TPA (the Employer is the one legally responsible) in the event of a Plan audit. Given the fact that audits are rare, this example simply highlights the fact that health debit cards don't stop "bad" claims from going though the system. Good TPAs and solid processes are what brokers and employers should be looking for. Without them, employers end up paying substantially more in claims that they will never be aware of because of HIPAA and privacy rules. How much more does it cost in claims? We believe it's an average of 20% based upon groups we've taken over. Feel free to reach out if you want to learn more.

Happy New Year everybody! 2023 was a great year both personally and professionally, not without it's challenges, but who really wants a year with nothing to overcome? One opportunity in front of us at Censys Technologies Corporation this year is to truly begin rolling out the onboard processing and dissemination of information from our payload offerings (and other inputs as well!) at the edge. In the video below we describe that workflow from collection to reporting, specific to vegetation management use cases. For additional information on early access pricing, or just general questions on the capability, give Keith White a shout!

Assistant VP Clinical Sciences & Research | Leading Clinical Innovation and Equity-centered Research | Transformative Lifelong Learner & Educator | Mother Advocate
I used to watch "Miss Evers' Boys" so much as a kid that the VHS tape snapped. I was already so committed to my dream of becoming a doctor to stop bad things from happening, and was deepening my interest in disparities research- although I hadn't learned the term yet. The Tuskeegee Syphillis study is the first research study I was introduced to. I knew there was something needed about this study, and yet there was something so very wrong when watching this as an elementary-aged kid. I knew I needed to be like Miss Evers and figure out a solution, but stand up for the truth sooner and earlier than she did. It's so very important for us to openly and deeply study all elements of our history- so that we see what not to repeat, and how not to repeat it. Having access to this study's records gives us a glimpse not to judge- because the wrong is evident and rife enough on its own- but to learn the possibility of human beings. So that we human beings still doing research and using it as a tool to advance society, health and discovery: will use it for good and realize there are boundaries to be ethical and keep people safe. #MissEversBoys #TuskeegeeSyphilisStudy #ResearchEthics

Know the history. Know the truth! It is only through transparency, honesty and facts that we can move forward as a society building trust. Thank you for reminding us of the fundamental element of “doing no harm”. Understand what harm has already been done and don’t repeat it.
