After attending my organizations leadership summit this past week, I reflected on a question asked of us during our division breakout session; "Why do we work safe"? Taking in account my vast years of experience and the roles I've held while at my previous employer, I reflected on "Why I work safe". This is my safety commitment to Beacon, and what I will read to my team during tomorrows safety meeting then post on our safety wall. Why I Work Safe I work safe because my life is interconnected with so many others who depend on me—my family, friends, loved ones, colleagues, employees, and my organization. Each day, I have a responsibility not just to myself but to those who count on me to come home safe, healthy, and capable of continuing to contribute to their lives. Safety is not just a job requirement; it’s a mindset that extends to every aspect of life. Whether I’m at work, on the road, or spending time with my loved ones, prioritizing safety ensures I can continue to fulfill my roles and responsibilities. It allows me to support my family, collaborate with my colleagues, and be present for the milestones and everyday moments that truly matter. When I commit to working safe, I’m also leading by example—empowering those around me to recognize the value of safety. By fostering a culture where safety is a shared priority, I help create a ripple effect that can prevent accidents, protect livelihoods, and build a stronger, more responsible community. Ultimately, safety is about respect—for myself, for others, and for the opportunities life provides. It’s about making choices that honor those who care for me and ensuring that I, in turn, can care for them. That’s why I work safe, not just on the job, but in every moment of life.

If you're tired of seeing your learning initiatives dismissed as mere checkbox exercises, it's time to listen up. Shana Storey's recipe for success transforms L&D from an afterthought to a powerhouse for career development and leadership growth. Here's how to make it happen. 👇 🤝 Secure leadership support: Make sure that leadership explicitly endorses and supports learning initiatives to encourage employees to prioritize and integrate learning into their teams' daily activities. 🧬 Clearly align L&D with business goals: Connect strategic L&D initiatives directly to the organization's business objectives to shift learning from a transactional task to a critical part of achieving business success. 🧠 Promote a learning and growth mindset: Foster a culture where learning is seen as integral to job performance and career development to ensure it becomes a seamless part of employees' daily routines rather than an additional task. And there's plenty more advice where this came from! Learn more from Shana Storey at Progyny, Inc., Heather Blue at 360Learning, and Rea Rotholz at Hone here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gDVB8Zvb

Our world at work is not going to magically change and we NEED a change. Do we want a future where the majority of people are disengaged in their roles? Where people don’t feel cared for by their leaders? Where there isn’t trust or psychological safety? Where we are so burned out that we numb out? It seems like such a big undertaking, but we CAN change our world. We can’t do it alone, but we can do it together. What an incredible opportunity we have to make a difference. What do we want our legacy as leaders to be? If you aren’t sure where to start, one place is our Human Leadership Program. We offer it four times a year (and our 11th program is taking place right now! Shout out to the 367 people who signed up to join us this week). The program is virtual and it’s also pay-what-you-can because we don’t want there to be a single barrier to joining this movement to build a better, more human world at work. We only have two programs left this year, one in August and one in November. We want you there no matter your role, title, industry, or level of experience. We are ALL leaders and we ALL have the chance to make a difference. Join us to learn how to build a more human world at work around you—one where there is trust, humanity, compassion, empathy, courageous conversations, authenticity, psychological safety to screw up—and so much more. Reserve your ticket at the link in my bio—and if you are part of our 11th class joining us this week, I can’t wait to see you today for day two! 🧡

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of participating in a leadership retreat in my capacity as Marketing & Engagement Manager for the Jamaica Defence Force Cooperative Credit Union. What set this retreat apart from others I've attended is that it wasn’t solely focused on marketing. Instead, it was about the overall strategic direction of our organization, directly impacting our business operations and guiding both our short-term and long-term objectives. What resonated with me most was our use of various strategic models, such as SWOT, PESTLE, Three Horizons, and Rich Picture, to address three critical questions: 1.How will we win? 2.What capabilities must we have? 3.What management systems are required? This retreat wasn’t about setting specific targets, like loan portfolio growth or reducing delinquency rates. It was about anticipating the systems, technologies, and social and cultural factors that will shape our business operations. By accurately predicting and addressing these elements, we ensure the long-term health and success of our organization. Personally, my mantra in life is always to question the ‘WHY?’ By questioning the why, we uncover the reasons behind our actions and the outcomes we aim to achieve.

A leadership lesson from my early morning office . Take the time to celebrate your teams success. It doesn’t need to cost a lot to do . Do one handwritten note (on nice paper - NOT a sticky note) and thank someone on your team for doing a great job (be specific) . Do it now ! It builds loyalty and trust . Make this a daily habit and see how the culture in your organization starts to change .
