While working with a cinema program that had me visiting elementary, middle, and high school media classrooms in California Department of Education, you immediately noticed 4th grade girls leading the productions (Directors, DPs, ADs, and Producers) but as you advance through the grades you saw fewer of them in those roles despite having the aptitude and desire. WHY?! Likewise in workforce development, most of my #productionassistant trainees interested in camera are female and/or non-binary, but #icglocal600 boasts only 17% gender equity. We could assemble crews by picking names at random out of the phone book and have more gender equity than we do currently. Maybe the question isn't why can't we hire more than one woman, or nominate #morethanone woman, but rather where are we as an industry and society failing aspiring girls after 4th grade? #educationforall Andria Wilson Mirza #womeninmedia Tema Staig #imdb Women In Media Adiba Khan The Art of Cinema Excellence Foundation #setlife #solidarity

New Post: Netflix drops new trailer for original Korean period action film ‘Uprising’ - https://lnkd.in/dsy8svBf - Netflix has shared a new trailer for its upcoming period action film Uprising, led by Gang Dong-won (Peninsula, Broker) and Park Jeong-min (The 8 Show). Read on for everything you need to know about the upcoming movie. READ MORE: 9 incredible K-dramas to watch in October 2024 on Netflix, Disney+ and more What is the plot of Uprising? Set during Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, Uprising follows the journey and conflict between two childhood companions – a master and servant – who face one another on opposite sides of a war as adults. Set in the late 16th century, during Korea’s famed Joseon Dynasty, Uprising centres Jong-ryeo, the only son of the most powerful military family of the era. Having grown up with his direct servant Cheon-young, both characters come to a head when the Japanese begin to invade and colonise Joseon. King Seonjo flees to the north while the people of Joseon form a rebellion, which the king later calls traitors. Jong-ryeo, who becomes a soldier on the king’s side, is faced with a more personal challenge when he faces his old friend and new adversary Cheon-young, who is an excellent swordsman part of the Joseon rebellion. Who is in the cast of Uprising? Park Jeong-min will star as Jong-ryeo, the master, and Gang Dong-won as Cheon-young, the servant. Others starring in Uprising include Hellbound breakout star Kim Shin-rock, Jin Sun-kyu (The Uncanny Counter), Jung Sung-il (The Glory) and Cha Seung-won (One Ordinary Day, The Tyrant). Meanwhile, the film will be helmed by Decision to Leave director Park Chan-wook. Is there a trailer for the upcoming Netflix film? On October 2, the streaming platform released an official trailer for the film a little over a week ahead of its premiere. The clip starts with high-octane scenes of swordsmen fighting, while a voice asks if a king and a slave are “equal”. The trailer wastes no time diving into the violence and brutality of the Japanese invasion of Joseon, where both Jong-ryeo and Cheon-young as adults end up coming to blows in the midst of the chaos. On September 10, Netflix revealed a teaser trailer for Uprising. The trailer opens by introducing the friendship between the two boys as children and later teenagers, often practicing their sparring. However, Jong-ryeo appears to betray Cheon-young in adulthood, going back on his promise to emancipate the latter from slavery. Later, the pair meet on the battlefield, this time sparring to draw blood. “A dog that bites its master must be put to death,” Jong-ryeo narrates. How to watch Uprising? Uprising will premiere globally exclusively on Netflix on October 11. After a long weekend, you often feel an inertia to go to work. But this weekend, was a little different. We had one of the most prestigious award ceremonies aired. Yes, the Oscars. Nine years ago, in 2015, the #OscarsSoWhite movement emerged in response to the lack of racial diversity at the Academy Awards. Thanks to April Reign. While we see a small change in the representation, back home, we have a similar story to tell. We published an article along similar lines, a few years ago. The study reveals a stark gender gap in Bollywood. While women grace the silver screen, their presence behind the camera is dismal. 1. Male domination: The study found for every 1 woman, there were 6.2 men in the industry. 2. Limited roles: Women are stereotyped in film roles (teachers, secretaries) while men dominate professions like doctors and police officers. 3. Behind the camera bias: Only 9.1% of directors and 12.1% of writers are women, far below global averages. A community on the margins: The LGBTQ+ struggle: The situation is even worse for the LGBTQ+ community. While some recent films have featured queer characters, true representation and opportunities remain elusive. Sexual harassment cases against prominent figures highlighted the urgent need for change. 1. POSH Act neglected: The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act (POSH) is often ignored. 2. Limited progress: Despite the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) pushing for reforms, concrete changes are slow. Let's use #OscarsSoWhite as a springboard to demand change not only in Bollywood but also in our workplaces. Here are a few observations that you can make while returning from a long weekend: 1. Is there an equal number of women sharing the table with you? 2. Do you see inclusive hiring practices taking place? 3. Is your language gender-neutral? We are sure, you will find your answers soon. #diversity #diversityequityinclusion #diversityandinclusion #oscars #oscars2024 #oscarssowhite #bollywood #bollywoodnews #genderequality #genderequity #gendergap #genderpaygap #culturematters #culturechange #culturebuilding #changeisgood #inclusiveworkplace #diverseperspectives #diversetalent #ceos #cxos #leaders #hr #hrcommunity

The real question is, who isn't obsessed with the LEGO Group? Remember one of their ad campaigns from a few years ago? An epic story written by kids? Just incredible. At MAD//FEST earlier this month Claudia Miceli led a brand challenge seeking out innovative solutions to get more girls using LEGO to be creative and imaginative. Their partnership with World Wildlife Fund to reduce carbon emissions and promote climate changing action was a clever one. And what about how inclusive LEGO is? From Braille bricks to culturally appropriate sets and gender equality in their figures. LEGO is a household name on a global scale because it connects its consumers on a personal, familiar level. The brand doesn't discriminate, it creates space for everyone to be creative, inspired, and engaged. From building their first car to putting together the Titanic. LEGO has emotional, social, and creative impact. It's a brand that is only really competing against themselves between the franchises. Which other brand can you think of that resonates at LEGO's level? Here's that great campaign ➡ https://lnkd.in/eCTHw7AF #Marketing #LEGO #BrandStory #Storytelling #EmotionMetrics #CreativeImpact #CreativeConfidence #ConsumerFirst #Inclusivity #Sustainability

Global Connector | Efficiency and Productivity Expert | Co-Founder, Female Film Club | Featured in Forbes, Variety, CineEuropa
Thank you Forbes for the feature, and not giving up on the narrative that gender equality in the film industry is 'an old narrative'. Worldwide film school have a gender divide of 50/50 however the number of female directors drops heavily after graduation. In 2022, women comprised 24% of directors, writers, producers, editors and cinematographers working on the top 250 grossing films, down 1% from 2021 *According to the Celluloid Ceiling report. I co-founded the Female Film Club four years ago to stop talented women leaving the film industry and demystify the process for new ones coming in. We created an environment that supports their growth, addresses the challenges they face, and encourages them to stay and continue making their mark. Members have access to regular mindset coaching, masterclasses, masterminds and workshops by acclaimed film professionals. There's currently thousands of members from 55+ countries and variety of professions. All online, so the barriers of travelling, childcare or even having to put on something 'presentable' are removed. It's vital that we don't give up on this quest just because we've heard it many times, there is still so much to be done. Articles like this really help underscoring its importance, so thank you Nina Sophia Miralles, it was a joy talking to you. Now let's get back to work. 😁 https://lnkd.in/ektD2xMs.
