⚡️ Launching #Her4Energy: Empowering Women in the Energy Sector Today, at the 10th #ARLEM meeting in Carcassonne, we discussed the importance of #energy justice. The successes of energy communities show us how reducing fossil fuel reliance can be achieved through solidarity and sharing. These #communities use #technology to help people see and control their energy use, making everyone more aware and #involved. In this context, I'm happy to share our new #Her4Energy tool. It shows how energy issues affect women and provides ways to include them in the energy sector. I invite all partners—cities, ministries, and communities—to explore and use #Her4Energy. Together, we can make energy more inclusive and sustainable. 📝https://lnkd.in/errnV5VS European Investment Bank (EIB) UNOPS Cities Alliance C40 Cities Clima-Med - Acting for Climate in South Mediterranean European Commission European Committee of the Regions Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale Ministère des Affaires étrangères français

Just tuned into the launch of REN21’s Renewable Energy and Sustainability Report (RESR), and it's fascinating to see the key sustainability principles outlined in the report. The report covers topics such as the careful siting of renewable energy infrastructure and the preservation of natural resources, development of circularity in renewables supply chains, and the involvement of all stakeholders including affected communities as well as all available talent from both #women and men, an aspect that GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition is very passionate about! If you wish to access the full report, check out the link in the comment section! #energyjustice

#IEA convenes 200 leaders from across society for first Global Summit on people-centred #cleanenergytransitions: : “As the #transformation of the #globalenergysystem gathers speed, we have to stay focused on ensuring that #cleanenergytransitions benefit everyone, especially the most vulnerable in societies. It should bring people together to deliver #betterlives, #betterhealth and a #betterplanet,” Dr Fatih Birol said. “The first ever Global Summit on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions sends a clear signal to the world: We need to ensure that the perspectives of labour, youth, Indigenous peoples and other key groups are effectively integrated into clean energy transition plans. These transitions will only succeed if they benefit the people that need them most.” Birol : “Equity is very important. Equity between countries, equity within countries, equity between genders & among communities. This is essential & is the reason we have this group here today" #CleanEnergyTransition International Energy Agency (IEA) https://lnkd.in/dby-wRAs

REN21's Andrea Ines Wainer took the stage today during the Climate Action Network International's Target Talk Series - Deep Dive 3: Sustainability of Renewable Energy. This event builds on the findings of the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Report #RESR released earlier this year. "Despite real advancements in the power sector and despite international commitments, we are still burning more fossil fuels than ever. It is clear that we are in an emergency, and the transition to renewable energy needs to happen now." 🌍 The Renewable Energy and Sustainability Report dives into the benefits of renewables and brings together diverse perspectives on best practices to mitigate the potential negative impacts of their deployment. The report differentiates the facts and myths around the sustainability of renewables, concluding that the environmental impact of renewables is significantly lower than any other energy source and can be mitigated with the adoption of existing best practice. 💡 For more on the wide range of benefits of renewables on climate change, air, water and land pollution, biodiversity, human health, energy access and energy security and job/local value creation, check out the #RESR here: https://lnkd.in/dMjxwDxP Andrea joined a fantastic panel of speakers, including: 🎙 Mariana Empis, Sustainability Engagement Officer at Hydropower Sustainability Alliance 🎙 Dean Cooper, Global Energy Lead, WWF 🎙 Caroline Avan, Head of Natural Resources and Just Transition, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre 🎙 Joan Carling, Executive Director, The Indigenous Peoples Rights International 🎙 Lidy Nacpil, Asian Peoples' Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD). 🎙 Ute Collier, Deputy Director, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) #RenewablesNow #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy

Youth and Renewable Energies: A Good Team for a Sustainable Future As the world wrestles with its increasingly worsening climate crisis, renewable energy solutions now have more of a role to play. In all efforts to make changes in the generation and use of energy, younger people are pushing innovation and systemic change from the front. Whether through actively calling for green policies or establishing start-ups focused on the development of sustainable energy technologies, youth are driving the shift toward a cleaner and more sustainable future. In fact, young increasingly think about renewable energy in view of the increased awareness of the environmental and social costs brought about by fossil fuel energy. It is for this reason that climate change has continued to pose an unparalleled threat to their future, large by, and increasingly realizes an urgent need for alternative alternatives like solar, wind, and hydropower. It is also ecologically more aware than any other generation; it wants to compel governments and corporate entities to invest in clean-energy infrastructures that reduce carbon footprints and allow growth in a sustainable manner. The renewable energy projects spearheaded by the youth are sprawling all over the globe. Scores of young entrepreneurs juxtapose technology with access to easy and affordable means for harnessing green energy. Portable solar panels, community wind farms, and dispersed energy systems are fast catching up in those developing areas. Such projects provide clean energy and open jobs, hence reducing energy costs and boosting economic development in such areas. Furthermore, young people are playing a very important role in setting policy on renewable energy. They have, therefore, done campaigns, protests, and sensitization on social media to compel governments to make renewable energy a priority of their climate action plans. Many youth-led organizations work hand in glove with policymakers to push forward strong climate legislation, clean energy incentives, and the phasing-out of fossil fuel subsidies. Their voices have somehow become, in a manner of speaking, an unstoppable force within the present climate of dialogue for change in the world. Put simply, the commitment of youth to renewable solutions works to underpin their motive for a more sustainable and fairer world. Innovation, entrepreneurship, and activism combine as youthful pens rewrite the future of energy. The action of renewable energy not only goes in tune with immediate challenges brought forth by climate change but also promises a resilient, cleaner future for generations to come. We want to thank our partners and colleagues for the productive discussions during the #aef2024. The theme “Energy Systems of the Future – Balancing Africa’s Needs with Global Goals” provided valuable ideas for moving forward. We bring you a few takeaways from these insightful engagements: ✔ Distributed renewable energy (DRE) systems are essential to achieving universal energy access and net zero – accelerating decarbonization, energy security and a just, inclusive, and equitable energy transition. Across the continent, renewables are cost-effectively displacing reliance on fossil fuels, advancing energy access and energy security. ✔ Training and upskilling the workforce through investments in educational systems, the people and infrastructure is crucial to achieving universal access to modern energy by 2030. Investments in people and institutions are foundational to the extraction of critical energy minerals and local manufacturing of components of energy systems of the future. ✔ Public and private capital must be accessible to scale-up and accelerate energy projects on the continent. Harmonization and possibly a coalescence of funding programs – including patient, concessional and philanthropic capital is required to unlock significant commercial investments and derisk energy projects. Our colleague Abdulmumini Yakubu shared learned experiences in a panel session on DRE where participants concluded that “achieving SDG7 by 2030 will require a technology-agnostic mix of different energy systems – encompassing grid strengthening and expansion, mini/mesh grids and stand-alone solar systems – allowing for productive uses of energy and shared community benefits”. Looking ahead, we reiterate our commitment to mobilising catalytic capital to accelerate the advancement of SDG7 in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change.
