Ever considered how access to power or lack of it impacts academic performance? Well, many schools in rural Africa without access to reliable power perform dismally as teachers are unable to do their jobs effectively and students cannot continue with their studies after dark. This has certainly been the firsthand experience of Reverend Francis Jabi, a teacher at St Peter's Anglican Church School in Pepel, Sierra Leone and his student Sinkenbi Kamara. They are unable to effectively compete with their peers who have access to power and other necessary resources which affects the quality of education offered. At the UEF, we are evening out the playing field and giving as many children as possible the opportunity to succeed and realize their dreams. In collaboration with our developers in #Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo (#DRC), #Madagascar, #Nigeria and #SierraLeone, we are electrifying public institutions including schools with clean, reliable energy. ⚡🌟 We believe that sustainable energy powers education and is the most effective way to create a lasting impact in the world. 🎓 #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi , Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole

Did you know that the latest State of the Global Mini-Grids Market Report 2024 highlighted that mini-grid developers are progressively and strategically shifting from the conventional model of relying on a single customer to anchor their business to a more varied customer base in what is evidently a deepening understanding of market dynamics? Historically, an anchor customer has been a company with the financial muscle that can guarantee a steady power demand and therefore a predictable source of income. However, they are increasingly considering other customers such as households and small businesses that can provide a steady load as an alternative to the anchor customer. The report singled out companies such as PowerGen Renewable Energy and Husk Power that are leading this trend, with a 20 percent grid segment driving 80 percent of the consumption and revenue. Coupled with the provision of appliances to customers to encourage higher energy consumption, these companies are cultivating a sustainable load that is positively impacting their bottom-line. We are proud that by #FinancingEnergyProsperity, we are contributing to such exciting developments that are significantly increasing the feasibility of mini-grid projects, ultimately accelerating and expanding access to electricity to a larger population. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi , Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole

Is there an alarming trend where population growth in Africa is seemingly outpacing the rate of new electricity connections? Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All says for the first time in over a decade, the number of people living without electricity has increased to 685 million from an estimated 660 million. While there has been notable progress made in deploying innovative electrification approaches for delivering electricity to communities such as mini-grids and standalone solar systems, this pace is still lagging behind the population growth rate. Ms. Ogunbiyi emphasizes the need for all stakeholders to work together and intensify efforts to develop and deploy solutions that will power the vulnerable communities in hard-to-reach places. This also entails sustained investment and collaboration to harness the sector’s potential which can accelerate socio-economic development and help lift millions out of poverty, leading to better livelihoods. We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for increased investments and need your help to spread the word so we can continue #FinancingEnergyProsperity! #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole

There are many considerations that clean energy companies make when determining when and where to launch renewable energy projects. While a lot of attention has been on financing and de-risking these kinds of projects, some developers have adopted a community-centric approach. Africa GreenTec, a UEF beneficiary, is one of them. Brand Communications Director, Scrolan Carolina Posewsky says they intentionally involve communities in the development of their projects ensuring that local needs and expectations are prioritized. This in turn, makes their projects relevant and impactful in the short and long term. Check out our website - https://lnkd.in/dAHw5KAs - for more exciting information on our work.
