🌊 Exciting update from the 6th EU-India Water Forum! 💧
On September 18, 2024, the 6th EU-India Water Forum was held in New Delhi, in conjunction with the 8th India Water Week. This event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the European Union and India to advance #SustainableWaterManagement efforts.
The 6th EU-India Water Forum brought together government representatives, policymakers, experts, and businesses from India and the EU, all united to tackle critical water challenges and forge innovative solutions. During the plenary session, Shri Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Mr. Kushvinder Vohra, Chairman, Central Water Commission, and Mr. Hervé Delphin, EU Ambassador to India, reaffirmed their shared commitment 🤝 to strengthening water cooperation.
The forum provided a vital platform for India and the EU to confront pressing water challenges, drive innovation, and promote sustainable investments. Key areas of focus included improvements in river basin management, the transfer of innovative technologies, and the promotion of environmentally responsible water projects.
Since its launch in 2016, the #IndiaEUWaterPartnership (IEWP) has been a driving force behind these initiatives, emphasising a commitment to harnessing collective strengths in pursuit of a water-secure and sustainable future. As the partnership enters its third phase, EU and India are collaborating on river management on the Tapi and the Ramganga River Basins and will extend its efforts to other key basins like the Brahmaputra.
Key highlights of the partnership:
- Trilateral cooperation: Exploring opportunities for collaboration with East Africa to tackle water challenges in regions like Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika.
- River basin management: Joint efforts to improve water management practices in key river basins.
- Innovation and technology transfer: Sharing knowledge and expertise to develop innovative water solutions. 🛠️
- Sustainable investments: Promoting responsible and environmentally friendly water projects.
