Swedish startup Heart Aerospace has unveiled a major breakthrough in electric aviation: a full-scale electric aircraft demonstrator, Heart X1.
With a 32-meter wingspan, the Heart X1 serves as a precursor to the company's ES-30 project – a 30-seat hybrid-electric aircraft aimed at transforming regional air travel, which is scheduled to enter service by the end of the decade.
Presented yesterday at their Hangar Day event in Gothenburg, the reveal signals a bold shift in the industry's response to environmental challenges.
CEO Anders Forslund noted that while fuel efficiency improvements have halved consumption since the 1960s, further gains are becoming limited. He emphasised the need for the industry to pivot towards new propulsion technologies, such as electric power, to meet future demands.
Forslund's vision aligns with a recent report by The International Council on Clean Transportation, which stresses that aircraft produced by the mid-2030s must have net-zero emissions integrated throughout their lifespan.
