The latest #SOFI2024 report could not be more clear: ending the global food crisis requires urgent, unified action. That's why we're proud to partner with First Lady Janja Lula da Silva and the #G20 Presidency to tackle this issue head-on. A few weeks ago, we traveled to Rio for with Global Citizen European Board Chair and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Goodwill Ambassador, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, to highlight Brazil's leadership in establishing the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. This groundbreaking coalition promises to unite global knowledge to strengthen social safety nets and shatter the generational cycles of hunger and poverty.
Check out insights from our inspiring panel, including the First Lady of Brazil, Janja Lula da Silva, European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, World Food Programme Executive Director Cindy McCain, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Dr. Dr. Alvaro Lario, and Food and Nutrition Security National Council President Elisabetta Recine, as we work together to create a global plan to end hunger once and for all.
The dawn of a world of abundance is upon us, rendering every effort to create positive change a worthwhile and fruitful endeavor. A revolutionary new system, economy, and currency are emerging, transforming positive human actions into tangible energy, ownership, purpose, and earnings. This breakthrough heralds a transformative moment for humanity, where our collective efforts will yield a brighter, more prosperous future for all.

Wow!! It was a phenomenal two days at the #Sustainability#Summit #2024.
I am grateful to our speakers, presenters and moderators who shared deep insights from multiple perspectives including law, policy, agriculture, gender empowerment, governance, academia, entrepreneurship and business, emphasizing the urgent need to build local consensus and take proactive + enforceable actions to ensure a resilient future in Africa.
Our team is distilling the Summit insights into a policy brief that will set out key recommendations. In the meantime, here are some key takeaways:
🎯 Since 1970, the number of birds and mammals have fallen by half. This was a sobering reminder of how dangerously close we are to the tipping point of catastrophe if collective and drastic action is not taken.
🎯 African societies must manage climate risk in a way that is nature-positive, focused on protecting our bio-diversity and unapologetic about promoting just outcomes for all, especially vulnerable communities that are ill-represented when climate -decisions are made.
🎯 It is not enough to have good laws, policies and strategies; we need an enabling environment, intentional advocacy and an empowered team/workforce.
🎯 African culture embeds care for nature and others; how do we leverage what we already know and communicate that effectively with our stakeholders and rights-holders?
🎯 Laws and policies must be inclusive and reflect the contextualized needs of Africans at all levels and represent a win-win-win for stakeholders, governments and business.
🎯 Innovative financing can unlock value and capital by leveraging Africa's vast assets and by empowering startups and private sector actors to innovate in the green economy.
🎯 We must empower the rural/ farming communities through off-grid renewable energy solutions, proactive local job creation and by promoting sustainable agriculture.
🎯We must approach climate change and resilience holistically, appreciating the intersecting issues and recognising all players in global supply chains.
🎯Businesses must effectively engage (not inform!) communities they affect and be held accountable when things go wrong.
🎯 Explore the potential for nuclear energy in climate adaption/energy transition strategies and how it may contribute to achieving the Paris Agreement's ambitious goals while enabling African countries to pursue their socio-economic development plans.
🎯 We must develop a pipeline of young Africans who are knowledgeable, confident and connected to local challenges, and guide them to lead and steward the development of continental-appropriate environmental, social and governance frameworks.
Thank you our Sustainability Summit partners, the inspirational leadership of Ridwan Oloyede and Abraham Rutunda and the relentless work and passion from the amazing Certa Foundation and Certa Law teams.
Enjoy the highlights captured 👇 and see you in 2025 for our next #sustainability conversation!
🇺🇳 The newly launched 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Report illuminates our progress and challenges in pursuing a sustainable future.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres highlights key achievements:
↳ Many women are breaking more glass ceilings – in politics, in business, and beyond.
↳ New malaria vaccines are being rolled out that could save millions of lives.
These milestones inspire hope and emphasize the need to intensify our efforts to achieve the Global Goals.
🌐 The 2024 SDGs Report provides a comprehensive assessment of progress, successes, and challenges, serving as a vital tool for policymakers, stakeholders, and individuals committed to creating a more equitable and sustainable world.

🌱 Why must we shape bioeconomies that work for nature, climate and people? ⬇️
🌎 The world is facing multiple social, economic and environmental challenges.
🟢 Although our global economy relies 100% on nature, biodiversity is not at the heart of financial systems.
⬇️ Changing to a bioeconomic lens has the potential to promote:
🍃 Social equity,
🍃 Environmental protection,
🍃 Economic development.
🌿 However, to avoid the worsening of global inequalities and social tensions, equitable and nature-positive principles must be embedded from the start.
🟩 Lívia Menezes Pagotto, Executive Secretary at Uma Concertação pela Amazônia, emphasises the huge opportunity we have to shape the purpose of the bioeconomy collectively.
🌴 She also stresses that we need to view this as a plural concept to reflect the diversity of landscapes and regions that may be part of the bioeconomy.
📢 For these ideas to gain momentum, the bioeconomy must be integral to global economic discussions and cooperation.
📗 The recently launched Global Bioeconomy Stocktake Report details the bioeconomy strategy and practices of G20 members.
🗒️ It shows that G20 member countries’ approaches surrounding this are closely aligned across key themes.

🌎 Food and Agricultural Commodity Systems (FACS) have contributed to the global challenges of environmental loss, climate change, civil conflict, political and economic crises, gender inequality, poverty, and weak governance.
In the era of "global boiling" as described by the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, we need an urgent shift of paradigm.
With agriculture occupying 40% of global land area and constituting a major sector of the economy in many countries, the impacts of FACS on the environment and climate alone continue to be serious.
UNDP works to transform FACS in over 100 countries through collaborative action among stakeholders, to build trust and generate breakthrough solutions on systemic issues. We support governments and a wide range of national and local actors to transition their food systems from recovery to resilience, paving the way for them to become equitable, inclusive and environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable systems.

🇺🇸 Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Representative of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, delivered a speech yesterday highlighting the role of the Zero Hunger Pledge and the private sector in achieving SDG2 #ZeroHunger and tackling the multiple crises of our time.
"A crisis of this magnitude requires a response equal in scale. A response that brings together governments, civil society groups, and NGOs. A response that harnesses the immense capacity and expertise of the private sector. [...]
The private sector is working to combat growing threats to food security, providing innovation and education, enhancing production methods, increasing access to food, creating cutting-edge technology, leveraging tools like artificial intelligence to detect disease, predict natural disasters, and help farmers grow more food, and helping fund good ideas, bold ideas, through the Private Sector Pledge, which has, to date, mobilized over $600 million dollars from 50 different companies, across 48 countries."
