🔴 Recent publications by CEEISCAT, a group of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), mark a significant stride in HIV and STI screening methodologies, using a self-sampling approach. 🔺 A study in the Journal of Community Health introduces a user-centered system for HIV sample collection, leveraging telematic tools and postal services for convenience and privacy. 🔺 Complementing this, a study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Medicine details the application of this novel system to hepatitis C. These studies underscore CEEISCAT's commitment to enhancing STI screening through digital health solutions, making testing more accessible and user-friendly. 🔗 Learn more about these studies and their impact on public health: https://lnkd.in/dpF5Y_5i #PublicHealth #HIVPrevention #ResearchImpact

"Budget lights a path to virtual elimination of HIV transmission" The Albanese Government has made a strong stride towards the virtual elimination of HIV transmission with tonight’s $43.9 million Budget commitment. The commitment expands access to PrEP, rolls out HIV self-testing, deepens connections with culturally diverse communities, continues online health promotion to communities and provides additional resources for the HIV community and clinical workforces, according to Health Equity Matters, Australia’s HIV and LGBTIQA+ health federation. Head of Marketing for the Academy of Brain-based Leadership | LGBTQ+ Positive Speaker & Advocate | Community Ambassador for Bobby Goldsmith Foundation
I sincerely hope that this year, some of these vital funds filter down to the organisations supporting people living with HIV. Organisations like Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and Positive Life NSW. Supporting people living with HIV and improving their quality of life, access to healthcare, and overall well-being is an essential part of the strategy to reduce transmission. When individuals have access to comprehensive care and support, they can maintain their health, adhere to treatment, and live full, productive lives. This not only benefits those directly affected but also contributes to the broader public health goal of eliminating HIV transmission. It's important to recognise that people living with HIV are already doing our part. 98% of the community who are on medication have achieved viral suppression, meaning that HIV cannot be transmitted. This is a significant achievement and a testament to the commitment of those living with HIV to manage their health responsibly. However, achieving viral suppression and maintaining quality of life requires sustained support. It's time for the government to come to the party and ensure a better quality of life for those living with HIV by providing funding for the organisations that support us. By directing funds to these essential services, we can continue to make strides toward eliminating HIV transmission while ensuring that those living with HIV receive the support they need to thrive.

Over the last month, AIDS United has submitted testimony to both the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and related Agencies (Labor-HHS) on Fiscal Year 2025 HIV appropriations. With this testimony, AIDS United has called on Congress to increase the federal government’s financial commitment to meeting the goals of the Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative (EHE Initiative) and support safety net programs that protect public health. Currently, the funding to support the initiative is failing to meet the needs of people living with HIV. Increased funding is key to achieving the Initiative’s goal of effectively ending the HIV epidemic in the U.S. https://lnkd.in/gqWwTzRF

🚨 Enhancing HIV Surveillance Through HIV Recency Data Use🚨 As part of our ongoing efforts to combat HIV, we recently conducted a Public Health Response meeting with support from the Ministry of Health of Zambia and Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia - CIDRZ . This was crucial in advancing the implementation of the HIV Recency Surveillance program, a vital tool in identifying recent HIV infections and pinpointing transmission hotspots. This enables us to optimize HIV testing and prevention services in HIV hotspots. During this time, we: Reviewed recency data in hotspot facilities. Conducted thorough assessments at major facilities to uncover service delivery gaps and provide support. Established Public Health Response (PHR) teams to develop and execute action plans aimed at reducing HIV transmission. This experience reinforced the importance of data-driven decision-making, robust partner collaboration, and ongoing support for our healthcare teams. #HIVRecency #PublicHealthResponse #DataDriven #HIVPrevention #Collaboration #SPHO #MoH #CIDRZ

NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) NIHR-funded researchers help influence WHO guidelines for people living with HIV The World Health Organization (WHO) has updated its guidelines for treating cryptococcal meningitis for people living with HIV. This change is based on findings from the AMBITION-cm study, led by NIHR Global Research Professor Joe Jarvis. The study recommends a new treatment which is simpler, safer, and more cost effective for people living with HIV. Cryptococcal meningitis is one of the most dangerous diseases for people living with advanced HIV. The disease accounts for 15% of all AIDS related-deaths globally. In 2014, it was estimated that 223,000 cases of cryptococcal meningitis resulted in over 180,000 deaths. https://lnkd.in/dAv2j2jc
