What is hydrogen energy? And why do we think that the world wide is going to depend on it as an energy source? Hydrogen energy refers to the capability of extracting the hydrogen element from organic materials like methane gas (CH4) or through the process of electrolysis by using current to split water molecules. What are the most known types of hydrogen? Grey Hydrogen: Produced from fossil fuels like natural gas or coal, without capturing carbon emissions, the way it works it uses the (SMR) technology which it refers to Steam methane reforming stations and as a result we would have H2 gas and carbon emissions. Blue Hydrogen: it works same as the gray hydrogen but it also uses CCS technology which it refers to Carbon Capture and Storage which it captures around (85-95%) of carbon emissions. Green Hydrogen: Produced using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power to power the electrolysis and other components we are going to mention later which it splits water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen, considered clean and eco-friendly energy from A-Z without any carbon emissions. And also we can mention that hydrogen energy is used in various applications across different sectors: Transportation: Hydrogen fuel cells are used to power vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks, and trains. These vehicles emit only water vapor and heat, making them environmentally friendly. Electricity Generation: Hydrogen can be used in fuel cells to generate electricity. This can be used to power homes, businesses, and even entire communities. Hydrogen is an energy storage medium with great potential for the future. However, the great difficulties such as production cost, transport and storage of hydrogen should not be ignored. New studies should be carried out on these issues and the production of hydrogen with renewable energy should be supported. I think hydrogen is inevitable for a more sustainable world.
