Good360 Australia commends the Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Group (CEMAG) Final Report released last month, a significant milestone to provide a blueprint for Australia’s transition towards a circular economy. The report was developed over a two-year consultation process across over 250 stakeholders and more than 12 Australian Government portfolios. The Advisory Group’s advice provides 14 recommendations for embedding circular principles across all sectors in the economy, focusing on: - Opportunities associated with Australia’s circular economy transition (nationally and within specific sectors) - Regulatory, commercial and other barriers to a more circular economy - Best-practice initiatives that show promise for adoption and/or expansion in Australia. Alison Covington AM, Good360 Australia’s Founder & MD says, “It is inspiring to see the leadership of the CEMAG advisory group and the strong collaboration across all sectors to arrive at these recommendations for a clearer path towards a circular economy in Australia. Good360 is committed to supporting the transition in collaboration with our network of partners and welcomes the opportunity to engage across sectors to reduce both need and waste in our communities.” Good360 also welcomes the recommendation for mandatory disclosure for resource efficiency and waste, including disposal of unsold goods (Chapter 4, Recommendation 4). By having greater transparency of these materials and resources, solutions can be better tailored to the specific needs of businesses to provide the most optimal environmental, social and economic benefits. What national targets and indicators do we need for New Zealand to realise the circular opportunity? The Interim Report from Australia's Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Group identifies the opportunity for a national framework to support Australia's transition towards a circular economy. It recommends setting national and sector-based circular economy targets, with a ‘Measuring what matters framework’. At Circularity, we believe that businesses, communities, and policymakers must unite at Circularity to drive this transition. So, how might your business start on circular measurement and target setting? You might start by using the globally recognised Circular Transition Indicator. The Circular Transition Indicators (CTI) tool, created by WBCSD and Circular IQ, is a globally recognised framework that helps businesses measure and improve their circularity. Implementing the CTI Tool establishes baseline measures, models improvement scenarios, validates new circular solutions for better decision-making alongside procurement and suppliers and estimates future shifts for setting ambitious sustainability targets. You can read more about how leading businesses are measuring their circularity right now using the CTI tool here - https://lnkd.in/gC5nXUpt If you, like us, are motivated to improve your business's positive impact and want to unlock ways to measure and improve circularity, get in touch at Hello@circularity.co.nz. Circular Economy Framework outlines key roles for investors as catalysts: 1. Investors can drive change by prioritising investments in companies and sectors that are adopting circular practices. 2. Investors can assess companies based on their resource efficiency, waste reduction strategies, and commitment to sustainable supply chains. By integrating circularity into ESG criteria, investors can encourage businesses to adopt practices that not only benefit the environment but also strengthen long-term resilience and profitability. 3. Investors can play an active role in promoting circularity by engaging with companies in their portfolios. Through active ownership, investors can influence corporate strategies, encouraging businesses to adopt circular practices, improve product lifecycles, and reduce waste. 4. Transitioning to a circular economy can involve new risks for businesses, including shifts in supply chains and the need for upfront capital investment. Investors can play a key role in de-risking these transitions by providing patient capital, offering flexible financing terms, or supporting public -private partnerships.
A Step Forward for the Circular Economy in Australia 🇦🇺 🔄 The newly launched Circular Economy Framework provides an ambitious path forward, with an 80% resource recovery target—a bold step towards embedding circularity into our economy. It’s encouraging to see such a strong focus on reducing waste and reimagining how we use resources. Great to see case studies of circular economy in action. This is just a start and charts a national commitment to support and inspire industries and individuals to take concrete actions in building a sustainable future. We are at a crucial juncture, and now is the time to move from ambition to action. I’m excited to see how this framework will drive local innovation and collaboration across sectors. Thanks for Minister Tanya Plibersek’s leadership, the federal government and inputs from the Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory group over the last 2 years. Thanks to the ABC News and @Declan Bowring for the coverage and for including my opinion. https://lnkd.in/gTKcKuUd Onwards and upwards in 2025! #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #ResourceRecovery #Collaboration #tanyaplybserk Australia’s Circular Economy Framework https://lnkd.in/gackyyR9 Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Group final report "The Circular Advantage" https://lnkd.in/g-wTu-nq UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures University of Technology Sydney Circular Australia Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence

Could mission-led policy transform how we think about waste and the environment? A new Government with a mission-driven approach could create the conditions we desperately need to shift our materials and waste systems into a circular economy. Recycling and energy-from-waste technologies have already changed waste treatment, from something to be buried out of sight to a resource with a second life. But progress is at risk of stalling and the goal of a genuine circular economy of materials seems elusive. This paper on Circular Economy Futures by Chatham House currently out for public consultation sees rethinking waste as fundamental to the Sustainable Development Goals. Aimed at global systems, the recommendations apply to all levels, especially the local: a circular economy requires an inclusive economy; SMEs are the backbone of the system; transformational Governance is required - to name a few. https://lnkd.in/gvC_ngA4 A mission-driven approach as we might see from a new Government in the UK, would look at this problem differently, demanding cross-cutting initiatives to tackle societal challenges. If we think about waste as a window into how our local and global material systems are connected, we can design our way towards a genuine and inclusive circular economy. Local Authorities have almost uniquely converging responsibilities for these services and need to lead the way. Helping transform their systems towards a circular, inclusive economy is a current area of focus for us at Inner Circle Consulting. #regenerativeconsulting #localauthorities #wasteandrecycling #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #missions #designthinking #circulareconomy Cradle to Cradle NGO (C2C NGO)

𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗗𝗚𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗘 – The interconnections between the CE strategies and SDGs Where circular economy (CE) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are misaligned, there is a gap between products, the socioeconomic circumstances of the people who produce and use them, and the environment where the products are extracted and disposed of. CE must deepen its understanding of the stakeholders and their socioeconomic and demographic circumstances to design new strategies that align the CE principles with and contribute to the SDGs. The SDGs must consider the social, economic, and environmental roles that products and materials have in society. ----------------------------- Pecunica (www.Pecunica.com) supports the BuildAction initiative for sustainable development and action.
