One of the most important moments in a charity auction is right at the very start! 🎤 As an auctioneer, my top priority is to get everyone’s attention before the bidding begins, especially in long rooms where guests can easily be distracted by conversations or the distance from the stage. 📢 Sometimes, you’ve got to get creative to make sure everyone’s focused. I’m not afraid to do whatever it takes to grab attention—even if it means standing on a chair in the middle of the room with a wireless mic! Why? What does your grant application and Michelangelo's 'David' have in common?... They are both works of art 🖼 To the untrained eye, a well-written grant application might seem like just that. But behind the final piece there is a whole craft that's gone into it. You see, for me, the writing process - whether it's for a grant application or something else - is like a sculpture. First you bash out the main shape. It doesn't look like anything yet, but you've got all of the materials there, out of your head and ready to work with. Next, you need to refine the shape - make sure you argument is going where it's meant to and that everything flows. You can see it coming together now. So this is when you get out those finer tools and carve out the details.
