Exciting times for our portfolio company, Cetogenix for being selected as the delivery partner for a project focused on advancing sustainable solutions for bioresource recycling in the UK. It's certainly shaping up to be a big year for the company. Fiona Rotherham from NBR - National Business Review explains this opportunity in her article, but in brief, Cetogenix has developed Ceto-Boost - a platform that uses hydrothermal oxidation to deconstruct waste and transform it into valuable end-products such as renewable natural gas, renewable chemicals, and biomaterials. CEO Trevor Stuthridge explains the UK project as an opportunity for Cetogenix to showcase the technology in a significant global market, and if successful, it will pave the way for deployment at other international sites. Since 2022, Cetogenix has achieved a number of significant milestones, including establishing the Ceto-Boost prototype system in Rotorua and scaling it to a pre-commercial stage, establishing global commercial partnerships, and strengthening its intellectual property portfolio through the introduction of new patent applications and IP licenses. From here, the company is about to start its first pre-commercial trial with a large New Zealand water and wastewater company – the results of which will be critical to informing the UK opportunity. https://lnkd.in/gJTqHJJv Alexandra Stuthridge Trevor Stuthridge Ashwath Sundaresan Brent S. Last night MCJ Collective and 9Zero hosted a panel on Industrial Decarbonization Beyond Steel and Cement which was quite interesting. We heard from representatives from Aepnus Technology, Ammobia, Rondo Energy, and a VC from Innovation Endeavors. Here are some hot takes from the event: 🔥 Steel and cement are a large focus here because the US is one of the largest GHG producers in these industries but the chemical industry is just as bad (if not worse). 🔥 Large players in the space are starting to think about ways to mitigate their impacts and start-ups should try to work with them (instead of against them) which can lead to funding outside of the VC world. 🔥 When rolling out a commercial pilot, try to connect it with a company in that industry (vs just having it show a proof of concept and needing a second machine built to provide real-world function). This will kill two birds with one stone and make you more viable for the next funding round. 🔥 After your first product is online and you need to move from R&D to production, think about bringing on an experienced leader(s) that have done this before. The founders are likely very smart and were pivotal for creating the product but the next phase in a company’s lifecycle requires different skills. If you ever have the time to check out any of these events I highly suggest it! It’s been great to get to hear from the brightest minds in this growing space!
