At Tobias, we have been supporting our clients to build a culture of openness and collaboration, and we know the foundation for this is creating a space at work where everyone feels like they can be themselves. So we asked our own team the following and Julia Suh said… 💭  What has been your favourite moment so far at Tobias? BBQs in our office balcony! I particularly loved our most recent one where everyone brought in food that means something to them under the theme of Korean vs German (long story short, I had a deal with Ulf during the FIFA World Cup, it was a draw, etc etc...). 🌱  What helps you feel grounded and ready to start work? Spending time with my toddler without being rushed when he wiggles out of the cot, walking him to his daycare, getting home in time to make a cup of coffee, then turning on the laptop for our daily stand up to kick the day off. ❤️  What does being your whole self at work mean to you? Being in an environment where I feel safe and comfortable to voice my perspectives that might be different from others' and being heard and appreciated for them. 🙌  In what ways does the Tobias team help you bring your whole self to work? I think everyone acknowledges that we are all ''human'' and have things going on in our lives whether it be sick family members or late school drop offs. We try our best to support each other to respond to these human activities that might get in the way of the plan. So yeah, maybe an extremely high level of empathy followed by support. #designtobias #workfam #companyculture

This week is Carers Week. This year the theme is ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ highlighting the contribution of carers. I would like to draw your attention to the valuable role carers play in designing services. I’ve had the great privilege in my career to work with different carers to design services to better meet the needs of the person they care for, whilst also considering the carer experience in accessing services. Carers’ wealth of knowledge and experiences are invaluable to service designers. A staggering 82% of carers surveyed by Carers UK said the impact of caring on their physical and mental health would be a challenge over the coming year, with nearly 60% adding that being valued as a carer would improve their wellbeing. THIS MADE ME LAUGH As we plan for our next #team meeting in a few weeks, I just had to share the video I took from our previous catch up. I spend a lot of time thinking about our teams. How we interact. How we learn from one another. How we inspire and motivate one another. My top 5 thoughts that came from this are below. 1. We aim to make the environment informative. 2. We keep it informal and make it fun. 3. It’s a safe space to have good open discussions and allow people to be themselves. 4. Everyone speaks once before anyone speaks twice. (Including me, which is a challenge 😆) 5. Create group actions that everyone can take ownership of. Clearly there was a lot of energy and the team needed a walk. 🫢 Mostly, I just can’t wait to discuss the future. The puzzles, challenges and of course, the opportunities. Great session today completing TeamTeach day 1 with a lovely bunch of carers from Pebbles Care. We spoke in depth about our ideal perfect homes and how we would want our own loved ones to be cared for. We created a tree with all of those things we wanted within the home, but also looked at things (questionable snails and slugs) that could hinder our idealistic tree. The idea is that if we can identify those factors that can damage our tree we can be proactive in creating plans to reduce the impact (pellets). Some great examples such as: - Building a pool of really reliable agency carers that we can use who have already built relationships with our young people reducing our young people’s anxiety around new people. - Creating support plans to help carers with training and education. - Have valuable team meetings to share successes to boost care teams morale and having openness and transparency to promote areas of development. The more we can do this within our homes, the longer our homes will remain a safe haven for our young people and care teams. Thank you all for your contribution, days like today really gives me hope for the happy futures of young people.
