Electric or Hydrogen ?

Remember Toyota Mirai? 0-60 in 9.1S; Now take a look at Hyperion H2. Pushing potentials further is what done by engineers. Probably, that's why this profession seems so interesting to me!! However, here Stellantis shows the basic arrangement and work process of Hydrogen Fuel Cell system. Movement of hydrogen molecules in presence of catalyst, is used to extract electricity here. Pushing it to limit like Hyperion is possible, but for everyday commute, we just need a car that satisfies basic definition of a car. Hail innovation✊.

And it's a wrap! What an absolutely fantastic week at the Hydrogen and Fuel cell trade fair in Hannover.   Deep decarbonization requires vast amounts of hydrogen, making the green hydrogen plant a key element of the hydrogen economy. What is the role of hydrogen in the future of mobility, heavy industry, and commercial vehicles? As many industries work towards becoming more sustainable, there is often a big decision to be made about fuel and power cells for vehicles and machinery. In some cases, the best answer will be electric but it is important to remain open minded and look at the role hydrogen can play in other forms of mobility and in other industries. Heavy-duty vehicles, agriculture, long-haul delivery … there are many instances where you need to re-fuel quickly, provide immediate power, or increase capacity … without reverting to fossil fuels. Here hydrogen can play an important role and it’s the duty of every major automotive company and industry to explore the ways in which hydrogen can contribute to a more sustainable future. What better place to explore this than in the recently inaugurated SymponHy Gigafactory – Europe's largest integrated site producing hydrogen fuel cells. This magnificent facility is run by @Symbio – an equal joint venture between our friends at @Michelin @Stellantis and @Forvia. Amid the picturesque setting in #SaintFons, I had the chance to see Europe’s biggest white room and hear how Symbio is developing and manufacturing fuel cells for a variety of different vehicle categories and use case.   I was impressed by the processes and the innovative use of technology for testing and manufacturing. As an engineer, we know what is possible. But it’s always pleasing to see such technological sophistication and innovation on display, up close and personal.  What I saw and experienced was truly cutting edge. I was also incredibly impressed to see how Symbio is able to create fuel cells at scale, with minimum waste. Overall, I’m incredibly encouraged by what I saw and heard. And I’m more convinced than ever that partnerships – including between the public and private sector – can and should play a key part in ensuring that we can achieve positive progress towards #sustainability in a way that is good for business, the economy and society. 🚀 The German Standardization Roadmap for Hydrogen Technologies 2024 is here! Last week, the Standardization Roadmap for Hydrogen Technologies 2024 was officially released! This roadmap marks a significant milestone in the development and standardization of hydrogen technologies, providing a comprehensive strategic plan for this forward-looking field. I had the opportunity to co-author the roadmap and coordinate this initiative internally at GKN Hydrogen, with 10 of my fantastic colleagues from different departments contributing as experts in various working groups across all key areas. I participated as an expert in the 'Safety Principles' and ‘Stationary and Portable Above-Ground Storage Systems’ working groups. This collaborative effort aims to harmonize existing standards, create new standards and guidelines, ensure a robust safety framework, and integrate new technologies. These elements are crucial for advancing hydrogen technologies and supporting a successful energy transition. It has also been a fantastic networking opportunity and an entry point into the field of standardization. Proud to be part of this initiative paving the way for innovative, climate-friendly technologies.
