We are glad to have Adam Leman Ph.D. from The Good Food Institute. Adam is the Lead Scientist, #fermentation at GFI and is focused on the development of biomass fermentation and precision fermentation biotechnology for food protein. He earned a B.S. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Rochester and a Ph.D. from Drexel University College of Medicine in Molecular Biology. Adam’s postdoctoral studies concentrated on fungal genetics and systems biology. During his time in biotech, Adam implemented gene expression analyses in microbial, agtech, and human health studies to better characterize these systems and offer a deeper understanding for strain development and process improvement. Happy Birthday Severo Ochoa (1905 - 1993) 🎂 Today we celebrate the birth of Nobel Prize-winning biochemist Severo Ochoa, recipient of the 1959 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. 🥇 Major Contributions 🔎 - Discovery of an Enzyme Involved in RNA Biosynthesis : He discovered the enzyme polynucleotide phosphorylase, initially believed to synthesize RNA. This discovery was crucial in understanding the biosynthesis of ribonucleic acid (RNA), a molecule central to protein synthesis in cells. 🧬 - Pioneering Artificial RNA : Though the enzyme was later found to degrade RNA, under lab conditions it ran its natural reaction in reverse, enabling the artificial creation of RNA sequences. We are delighted to introduce you another talented researcher of ours, Maya Miller from Carol Robinson's Group at Oxford Chemistry, University of Oxford. Maya is fascinated by the paramount role metals play in basic physiological process and their pivotal part in health and disease. Her previous work focused on metal-based drugs and their interaction with biological entities. Her current research is focused on ABC transporters and metalloproteins that are involved in health and disease.
