Give back to your community, judge awards when given the chance. You will benefit as well. Read below to find out how. #community #awards #recognition #achievement
🙏 Thank you Phil Jones for inviting me to be part of your judging team for the The Drum Awards: Digital Industries. Did I have the time? Yes. 🤔 For people who may not have judged awards before, here are a few reasons to serve as a judge: 1. You will meet great people, learn from other judges, and expand your network 2. You will review diverse work and learn what work stands out and why 3. You will contribute to the advancement of our industry and help people learn what good looks like. 🏅 It is good practice to study what work wins awards. It helps set the standard we aspire towards. Plus you are not typically excluded from entering your own work (as long as it is in a different category!). 🎉 So thanks to Phil and the Drum and all the other folks I've judged with over the years (Wirehive / Pax8 and ARCET Global to name but a few) plus some of the amazing fellow judges I've met including the phenomenal Kerensa Jennings and Charlotte Hillenbrand. Awards are important. Recognition and appreciation helps motivate us to strive towards excellence. I look forward to serving with my fellow judges including Chris Mellish and Kate Dale and meeting new colleagues. The deadline has been extended til 6 September, so please consider entering. 👉 Enter here: https://lnkd.in/g5RU2rAW When the opportunity arises to be a judge, do it! #awards #recognition #achievement #excellence #digitalinnovation

We have so many award lists reserved for people 𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 20, 30, and 40. That's cool and all, but how about we push for some new standalone recognitions from the likes of PRWeek, Forbes, Fast Company, TechCrunch, etc., dedicated to (wait for it) people 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 40, 50, 60? Let's call it the "Wisdom Winners" or "Wisdom 50 over 50", you get the idea. Major bonus points if the people selected were relative late bloomers or second actors who hit their stride well after the typical prodigies. People like Morgan Freeman, Rose Blumkin, Bernie Marcus, Ray Kroc, Henry Ford, Martha Stewart, Toni Morrison, Lucille Ball, the list goes on and on. The more resilience, the higher the ranking. I would love to delve into this type of award list, would you?

The truth about DEI committees…. DEI committees have the potential to be a force for good but when they get it wrong, they can end up isolating the very employees they're trying to support. A common misconception is that being from an underrepresented background automatically makes you a good candidate for the DEI committee. I can relate because I was clueless about DEI but was asked to spearhead it in companies I joined. Like me, most people have no intention of joining, they often say yes out of fear or feeling like they’re letting people down if they don’t. But you join and wholeheartedly go into it believing you can make a difference. But then your ideas get shut down because DEI discussions happen in a DEI silo. Even worse, you’re now branded by colleagues or the boss as too ‘woke’. Suddenly, you feel isolated when the whole point is to make you (and people like you) feel more included. So, if you feel your DEI committee is too woke. Please remember they probably joined the company just wanting to do their job in Sales, Operations or Tech and go home. They probably had no intention of being the spokesperson of DEI. They are just trying to help.
