Protect Trans Kids It's a statement of support for trans and gender diverse youth who are too often bombarded with negativity. They deserve to feel loved, safe, valued and celebrated. Protecting trans kids isn’t just about protection from violence, hate and discrimination. Trans and gender diverse young people experience depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation at much higher rates than their cisgender peers. Not only is this caused by bullying and harassment, but also just from feeling unseen, unheard, or not accepted by friends or family. While all of these things affect the trans and gender diverse community as a whole, young people often lack the support to get them through these challenges. It’s incredibly important to note that being trans or gender diverse isn't the cause of mental health issues, the cause is experiencing those compounding external stressors. There’s plenty of work we can all do to build a better future for young trans and gender diverse people, but the simplest one is to be visibly supportive and accepting. Girls, women, and gender-diverse people with disabilities oftentimes are excluded and overlooked when it comes to the #SRHR needs. They’re underrepresented and invisible in policies, programmes, and services.
