I am fascinated by the latest cutting-edge technologies and the innovation power of start-ups. And what is even more important: I witness every day what a huge impact the collaboration between Roche and start-ups can have on healthcare - and how much we can both benefit from each other. I've organised my first #hackathon back in 2010... so, I've been creating hackathons for 14 years, or - now that I think about it - 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 so far 😮 Why? Short answer: because they are 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 😉 (bear with me). Longer answer: because besides being magical, hackathons also solve very real, very complicated problems. The complete answer came out in the conversation with Tom Braekeleirs when we were talking about the upcoming #hackhealthcare event for Tom's 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗡𝗲𝗿𝗱 podcast. We talked in some depth about both the kind of the problems a good hackahton can solve, and about the hackahton magic and where it comes from. Just wanted to comment that achieving a significant level of therapy personalization to enhance efficacy and safety is possible only through a comprehensive approach. This includes using #PGx and other #omics biomarkers (proteomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic) and continually optimizing the algorithm through feedback by analyzing therapy outcomes (all cases of ADRs or lack of efficacy). Such an approach allows for the full personalization of algorithms for each specific population and patient. This becomes feasible and maximally convenient for development and further implementation through #VectorSearch tools and #GenAI in developing #AI models based on InterSystems #IRIS for Health technologies in conjunction with #TrakCare EMR and #FHIR. Further integration of results into a global centralized AI model accounting for clinical outcomes from multiple organizations through HealthShare Health Connect enhances this process. Yesterday, Mette and I had the pleasure of sharing our insights on the collaboration between NordInsight and Nordsjællands Hospital on the Life Science Stage at TechBBQ. These two worlds typically don’t mix well - startups thrive in fast-paced environments with a "fail fast" mentality, while hospitals prioritize high standards, thorough processes, and rely on proven, mature technologies. However, we’ve shown that it is possible to bridge the gap meaningfully. The healthcare sector increasingly depends on innovative technologies to optimize workflows and free up time. With staffing shortages persisting, it’s crucial that we find ways to better support the healthcare professionals we already have.

We recently featured 9 startups at HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition ’24 in our “Innovators Showcase.” And here’s what I noticed about each of these companies: They are all using data in creative ways to fuel innovation. As partners of InterSystems, they’re using our technology to develop their solution. But they’re using our versatile tools like IRIS for Health in very different ways.   Some like PGxCare are deploying AI-powered solutions to reduce the risk of adverse reactions in drug prescription.
