According to a recent MGMA survey, 43% of medical group owners have hired alternative staff to cover open medical assistant roles. MGMA reports that many practice leaders look to fill the gap left by an MA vacancy with certified nursing assistants (CNAs), registered nurses (RNs), and licensed practical nurses (LPNs). "When MAs are unavailable, it puts practice administrators in a position to find someone else — including themselves, at times — to ensure a staff member can room patients throughout the day," writes MGMA Managing Editor Chris Harrop. Other tactics medical group owners are implementing to help cover clinical duties covered by MAs include: ✅Establishing a path for nonclinical internal staff or non-certified MAs to become MAs through education, training and apprenticeship programs ✅Hiring EMTs and combat medics ✅ Implementing a program for medical and nursing students as interns or part-time workers You can read more about MGMA's survey at: https://lnkd.in/gN3DWhVr #PracticeManagement #MedicalStaffing #MedicalAssistants

🌟 Celebrating the Incredible Role of Medical Assistants! 🌟 Medical assistants (MAs) are essential to healthcare, but there’s often confusion about their scope of practice. 🤔 While MAs play a critical role in supporting both patients and physicians, many still learn their skills on the job without strong federal guidelines in place. 🏥✨ It's exciting to see the progress made as MAs earn certifications and gain recognition for their important contributions! However, the recent discussions from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and complaints highlighting the mislabeling of MAs as “nurses” show we need to clarify what MAs can and can’t do. 🤝 It’s crucial for medical practices to understand their state laws and the unique scope of practice for medical assistants. Remember, MAs perform vital tasks like preparing medical records, managing patient accounts, scheduling appointments, and assisting in procedures— all under a doctor’s supervision! 📋💉 🔍 Let’s champion the medical assistant profession by ensuring everyone knows their capabilities! By understanding our roles, we can work together more effectively and provide top-notch care. 💪 Whether you’re an MA or supporting one, let’s continue to advocate for a unified scope of practice and recognition of the incredible work that MAs do every day! 🙌💙 #MedicalAssistants #HealthcareHeroes #ScopeOfPractice #Advocacy #MAsMatter

As a nurse there are so many other options outside of clinical roles. Here are some of the coolest in my opinion: 1. Medical Device Industry: Step into a role where clinical expertise meets technology. Nurses here influence patient care through device education, liaison roles, or product development. 2. Legal Nurse Consulting: Merge nursing with law by helping legal professionals interpret medical information and evidence in cases. 3. Telemedicine Coordination: Facilitate virtual healthcare services by supporting patients and providers in the growing field of digital health. 4. Clinical Trial Management: Get involved in research by managing clinical trials, ensuring accurate data collection and participant care. 5. Occupational Health Nursing: Promote workplace health by preventing and managing job-related illnesses and injuries. These paths offer unique opportunities to apply your nursing skills in dynamic, impactful ways. Did you take a unique career path? What was is it?

Why become an A&E doctor? On the day that a new group of junior doctors join us, here’s some reasons why I specialised in Emergency Medicine…. 👉🏾 the variety…. No day is ever the same with both child and adult patients attending with an enormous range of conditions - trauma, mental health, accidents, heart attack, stroke all the way through to minor injuries (anything, in fact, which is either an accident or emergency!) 👉🏾 the immediacy - we generally see an immediate response to our intervention - most dramatically when we save a life on the resus table 👉🏾 decision-making - A&E often requires rapid and decisive decisions to be made, and this aligns with how I work and think, and the type of pressure I enjoy 👉🏾team work - the ED functions because doctors, nurses, advanced care practitioners, paramedics, nursing assistants and everyone else comes together in a highly collaborative environment. It’s a great team. 👉🏾 learning and development - I teach “Advanced Trauma Life Support” to doctors but also learn from junior doctors who have done a stint in a different dept and bring the latest learnings with them. Learning is a continuous journey. Every senior doctor will have made a decision to specialise in their field - any comments below explaining why you chose yours? 👇🏾 (and yes, I like variety so much I co-qualified as a GP too 😉) #a&e #welcome
