Our Phonemic Awareness curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all learners, helping them retain skills more effectively by keeping them on their toes with physical movement to promote active engagement. Here's a fun challenge for you: Can you guess the hand motion we use when teaching students to remove the initial sound from a word? Here's a hint: One hand stands for the initial sound, and the other shows what’s left after it's gone. Can you picture it? Drop your guess in the comments below! 🚨Spoiler alert: Pull the right hand away to demonstrate removal of initial sound. 🫶I am a huge fan of kinesthetic/tactile learning that helps skills to really stick! Heggerty's body-to-mind connections are invaluable, especially for young students and those requiring more physically active learning experiences.

I used Heggerty in my kindergarten classroom. It's one of the best ways to teach phonemic awareness. The hand motions are great for kids who need to move to learn--which is a lot of kids!
