DECISION TRAP   Have you heard of the Donkey decision trap ? It’s from the French philosopher Jean Buridan about a Donkey who is standing between two bales of hay. Each bale is on either side of the donkey, because the Donkey doesn’t know which to eat first, it starves. A decision trap I experienced was by my former employer consisting of the middle and senior management teams, in regard to a decision that no one wanted to take responsibility of.     A SOLUTION WAS NEEDED ! There was a recruit joining the Fire Service recently, he is a practicing Muslim, he wanted to be able to still pray 5 x a day, but he agreed it wouldn’t interfere with his workday. Also, during Ramadan he still wanted to be able to fast and not drink during the hours of sunrise to sunset. During his recruit course Ramadan was at the end which is the most physical part of the recruit course. He would not be able to qualify as a firefighter unless he finished the course with his fellow recruits. 1.       What would you do ? 2.       What support would you expect ? 3.       What support would you give as a Leader and Manager to the Manager dealing with this ? 4.       Do you think that was problem solved ?
