We are excited to share that our Secretary General, Madadh MacLaine, will be a speaker at the upcoming @WMU-BUGWRIGHT2 Forum 2024. hosted by the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute (GOI) at the World Maritime University (WMU) and will take place in Athens on 16 February 2024. The WMU-BUGWRIGHT2 Forum marks milestone in the European Union's Horizon2020 funded project, Overcoming Regulatory Barriers for Service Robotics in an Ocean Industry Context (BUGWRIGHT2). Since its inception, BUGWRIGHT2 has aimed to bridge the gap between current capabilities and the future potential of service robotics in vessel survey, inspection, and maintenance. The GOI's role in crafting an advanced regulatory framework for robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) is vital in achieving these goals. Madadh MacLaine will join a panel of national and international experts to discuss the integration and challenges of technology within the maritime and ocean industries. The forum will serve as a crucial platform for dialogue, focusing on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges of implementing new technologies and techniques in this sector. 👥 As part of SINFONICA Project, e-trikala SA - Municipality of Trikala is conducting semi-structured user acceptance interviews with #citizens to understand their needs and requirements for #mobility. It is also facilitating focus groups with citizens and multi-stakeholder #workshops to capture their mobility needs. 🚌 At the same time, two SINFONICA project partners, e-Trikala and ICCS, are currently organising the trial operation of #autonomousvehicles in the urban and rural context of Trikala in #Greece as part of the SHOW project. 🤝 The two projects are ongoing and their synergies have a greater effect and impact than the individual projects. Friday's Musings Found this clip of Steve Jobs in my daily feeds today. The message by Jobs is timeless, stated in 1990, and the original article is over 50 years old. Essentially, our bodies and biology are amazing in what they can do physically. This is exemplified by how long it has take Boston Scientific (and others) to create a bi-pod robot that can stand up again on its own after it has fallen prone. Our cognition and minds has expanded over so, so, so many years. Computers have been able to analyze and run processes at speeds far greater than we can. This power has been created decades ago and exponentially expanding since. Now, our machines and 'tools' are learning, so rapidly that there are councils and roles to 'ensure that there is ethical AI.' I'll save some thoughts on those emerging dilemmas for another time. Our team had an extremely proactive trip to the #windeurope2024 exhibition in Bilbao this week and like our robots, made good use of a narrow window of opportunity to successfully grow our network and generate new business interest. As a people-centric business, BladeBUG prides itself on building deep and enduring partnerships so it was great to make time and meet with our highly valued customers, suppliers, and overseas partners including robotic lead engineer Lisandro Puglisi from EDP who are this year's event ambassadors and will be visiting us during our next project in Spain. Make no mistake, the wind sector is growing rapidly and the exhibition halls echoed that vibrant energy, thriving with people networking and businesses collaborating to find new innovative ways of working #safer, #faster, and #smarter through #innovation and #technology adoption. By 2030 it is reported that the sector will employ over 500,000 people in Europe alone, up from 300,000 jobs today presenting a significant challenge of finding additional skilled workers in such a short time frame. Adopting technologies such as #ai and #robotics to deliver greater levels of #autonomy is a fundamental step towards addressing this challenge as it enhances capability and enables teams to work more efficiently and effectively without necessarily increasing headcount. We believe that working with industry to understand these challenges is critical to developing the right solutions and enables growing innovative businesses like BladeBUG to support a strong, sustainable, and competitive economy.
