Late last month, the Morristown Zoning Board unanimously approved a back-of-house expansion to the 87-year-old Mayo Performing Arts Center in the Town of Morristown. 🎭 The plan calls for a 31,000 SF five-story addition and a bi-level parking garage. While the historic façade along South Street will be unchanged, #MPAC will now extend from South Street to King Place. We also want to note that most of the back-of-house addition will be dedicated to their #artseducation program, currently located in the buildings being replaced by the expansion. So not only will this expansion add to #Morristown’s historic charm and contribute to its economic vitality, but will also inspire local artists of the future. 🎨👨🎨 Cultural institutions like #MayoPAC are a vital economic engine for downtowns across the State, and particularly in Morristown, not only driving foot traffic to surrounding businesses, but driving the community's economic health. 🛍 In their most recent annual report, the Center stated that the nonprofit arts center generated more than $15 million in revenue for local businesses in the 2022/23 season. 💰 That's no chump change. The City of Redding is beginning an inclusive and comprehensive process to update the Redding Riverfront Specific Plan. The updated Specific Plan will become the City's primary planning, design, preservation, and regulatory document for the Riverfront area. The final plan will envision a combination of land use policies, transportation and mobility improvements, development standards and requirements, cultural enhancement and preservation projects, and environmental protection policies and projects.   The Specific Plan project will include robust community involvement to understand the community's desire for future uses and activities in the Riverfront area. The public is invited to attend an open house on Monday, August 14th, from 1 pm to 7 pm at the Redding Civic Auditorium Lobby at 700 Auditorium Drive in Redding. Presentations will be made at 2 pm and 5:30 pm. During the open house, City staff and the consulting team will share details about the planning process and welcome your ideas.   "The update to the Redding Riverfront Specific Plan will help us establish a clear vision for the future of the space, with consideration for the area's history and character and a plan for its design and function. The goal is to integrate art and landscape design and to help ensure the area will remain adaptable as our City continues to grow," says Lily Toy, Planning Manager with the City of Redding.   The process to update the Redding Riverfront Specific Plan is expected to be complete by June 2025 and will include numerous opportunities for community engagement to address the riverfront's future by considering potential new uses, areas of preservation, and areas of natural resource enhancement.   "It is critical to have community members of all kinds get involved in this process, as the decisions we reach with this plan will directly impact this community for years to come. It is vital for the long-term success of the places we design to create spaces that will grow and flourish alongside the community that use them. One project that has fulfilled this ambition is Moortown Park in #Leeds, which recently won the Public Realm and Landscape category at the #Leeds Architecture Awards 2023 (#LAA2023)   This video, produced by Addictive Media, captures how the transformation of this former corporate sports field (delivered on behalf of Leeds City Council following a community campaign led by Friends of Moortown Park) into a new seven-acre community green space, has had an incredible impact on people of all ages.   Early on in the design process, we recognised that this would need to be a space that could evolve and be shaped by the people who live here. With this in mind, we strengthened the existing woodlands and meadow habitats to offered the community even more opportunities to experience nature.    The sloping site created fantastic opportunities for play, offering a place for families to come together and giving children the freedom to explore the landscape in a safe space. New dog walking paths and play areas sit alongside a deep woodland corridor, meadows and a small wetland area.   The judges said: “This is an example of a well-designed (but not over-designed) flourishing and well-used urban park, which will only get better in future years.”   For us, the most rewarding part of this project is seeing the community take ownership of the park; local people and volunteers, led by Friends of Moortown park, now have a sense of stewardship and are working together to ensure #MoortownPark is constantly evolving, just as we’d envisaged. #Landscapearchitect #landscapearchitecture #publicpark #communitygreenspace #publicrealmdesign

An 11-acre park being constructed as a deck capping I-95 will connect Philadelphia to the Delaware River waterfront #Pennslanding. 200 South Broad Street, a 885,365 sf project, is converting an office building into apartments, sports club, rooftop skating rink, coworking space, and a hotel #thebellevue. A 23-story mixed-use office/287-unit apartment under construction on a challenging property fronting the Schuylkill River proves that even the most challenging of waterfront urban sites can be redeveloped #2301johnfkennedyblvd.
