I've been advocating for the rights of #peoplewithdisabilities in Azerbaijan since 2017 through DanceAbility Azerbaijan - Inclusive Dance Company & Training Center and have encountered many different reactions and #feedback. Here are a few examples: 1. "Hi, Straight away prepare a performance; it would be good for our country's image." 2. “Just train more people who use wheelchairs; it would be easy to see that your performance includes people with disabilities.” 3. “Please don't talk to me about people with disabilities; it affects my appetite." 4. “I don't have a disability, and my family doesn't either. Can we change the subject?!" I remain patient and empathetic toward these various responses. However, I want to emphasize that if it's hard to think beyond oneself, consider our citizens as a whole and our mutual evolution as a nation, it would be beneficial to view this from the perspective of #humanrights and #inclusion. Moreover, remember that none of us or our relatives are immune to disability. Therefore, creating an #inclusivesociety ultimately benefits us all. And now lets come back to the accessible beaches, they aren't just about meeting legal requirements—they're about fostering a society that values inclusion, equality, and #wellbeing for all. Last year, I visited my friend Dinos in #Volos, #Greece. Most of our time was spent enjoying nature, and having accessibility was the key to making it all possible. Happy to share the video which I took from one of the beaches. Everyone deserves the joy of a beach day. Accessible beaches provide people with disabilities the same recreational opportunities, promoting inclusion and enhancing quality of life. Nature and outdoor activities offer essential therapeutic benefits, from stress reduction to improved muscle strength. #Accessiblebeaches also foster #social integration, allowing people with disabilities to enjoy activities with family and friends, reducing isolation. Plus, they can boost local economies by attracting more visitors and #benefiteveryone, including the elderly and parents with strollers. I am also a paraplegic. You might have seen me in my wheelchair at the bottom of a ramp, waiting for a friendly passerby to give me a push. Being an independent wheelchair user is challenging, but since I arrived in Riyadh, I have been struck by the locals’ warmth and generosity of spirit. I’ve noticed the same willingness and commitment from my colleagues. I’ve also been touched by the personal experiences co-workers have shared. Some face their own daily challenges, such as those who, after long hours at work, take on caregiving roles at home. The importance of accessibility, disability, and inclusion presents a significant question: how does such a large organization ensure consistency in such a specific area? AIRPORT GUIDANCE: ACI EUROPE releases airport guidance for passengers with non-visible disabilities 'Assisting Passengers with Non-Visible Disabilities' is a tool supporting airports in gaining a deeper understanding of the potential range of #nonvisible #disabilities and the associated barriers to #travel. It is designed to help navigate the processing of sensitive information from passengers regarding their needs and expectations in order to provide them with the best care throughout their journey. By becoming more disability-aware and adapting their services, airports can ensure that these passengers have the same rights to free movement, freedom of choice and non-discrimination, which are the guiding principles of #EuropeanUnion law.   Olivier Jankovec, director general of #ACIEurope, said, “Travel is a fundamental right for all, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that airports across Europe remain accessible to everyone. Raising awareness about accessibility: watch this TikTok about air travel from Anna Sarol, an influencer and disability advocate. #Accessibility #Disability #DisabilityInclusion #AirTravelAccess #DEI VD: TikTok following Anna, a manual wheelchair user, through an airport as her voiceover addresses air travel and airplane restroom accessibility. Transcript: A harsh reality of the inaccessible world is the inability to use airplane restrooms. Those tight, compact bathrooms are a huge barrier to navigate. It's to the point where long periods of dehydration becomes a necessity on travel days. Besides the length of the flight, the lack of restroom access can be made worse when you factor in that we are the first to board and last to deplane. So for me this looks like keeping myself from consuming any liquid 'til I touch down at my final destination, but also perfectly timing last-minute restroom trip before the board call. This is why advocating for airlines to promote accessibility is so important. No one should have to choose between staying hydrated and using the restroom.
