I had an amazing trip to the Great Lakes region last week. I was welcomed with open arms to the Midwest and was able to visit with B Local Wisconsin , B Local Illinois, and Good For Michigan this week. Not only was it wonderful to connect with the local B Corp communities, I got to know these leaders as kind, caring, and lovely humans and experience the local offerings. Thank you for touring us, driving us, and being fabulous hosts! Stop one - Wisconsin. If you ever have a chance to visit Milwaukee - don't miss the opportunity! I started the week off with a B Local Wisconsin event (thank you Kelsey Moses and Lakefront Brewery for hosting!) Thank you to Mfoniso Ekong for leading the Q&A session and giving me an opportunity to represent B Lab U.S. & Canada and share more about the B Local Program. B Local Wisconsin Chair, Lisa Geason-Bauer, Trained B Consultant Geason-Bauer planned a full day to showcase Wisconsin business community - strategy session with the board, tour of the community, introductions to nonprofits and community organizations, and ending the day with a locally-sourced delicious meal. So wonderful to connect with the leaders of the B Corp movement in Wisconsin: Darrie Matthew Burrage, Melina Marcus, Tom Eggert, Rachel Winter, Kathleen Nickerson, Lisa, Kelsey, Mfoniso, and always great to see you Karen and Robert! Inspired by connecting with and learning more about these Certified B Corps: Lakefront Brewery, Stone Creek Coffee Roasters, gener8tor, Evolution Marketing A Certified B Corp, Rebel Green, Integrated Work, 3Degrees Group, Inc. As well as these local organizations: Fondy Market, Sherman Phoenix, Alice's Gardens, La Merenda. Stop Two - A very quick stop in Chicago to meet with B Local Illinois Chair Adrian Gershom, B Local Advisor (and leader of many networks!) Tim Frick, and my colleague Carson Bolding for lunch. Then on the way to Michigan!

This is a great sit down discussion with Amanda on how we are growing, listening and adapting to best serve a growing, diverse and ambitious group of stakeholders. Working together, united, we can accomplish way more than any individual company or growing region. Even the biggest companies… This was certainly a takeaway from our convention in Tucson. I love that U.S.H.B.C starts with, “US.” It is that “us,” approach that will help grow the category, drive profitable demand for our growers and ensure the value of blues remains high. With how much runway still lies ahead for blueberries (60% of today’s purchases, dollars, are made by 20% of blueberry buyers and we are under 49% of households 🤯), the focus and opportunity must remain on growing the (blueberry) pie, not just fighting for the slice. Meeting together as an industry is key to helping remain focused and realizing these many opportunities still ahead for our growers. Join us in Denver! https://lnkd.in/g3dzMPPP Go blueberries! 🫐👊🏼🫐
The Industry Feedback from the 2024 Blueberry Convention delivers unique insights into the evolving landscape of the blueberry sector. In this episode of "The Business of Blueberries," host Kasey Cronquist, president of the USHBC/NABC, is joined by Amanda Griffin, CMP, IOM, vice president of engagement and education at U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council and North American Blueberry Council. “The change is we are going to smush over the convention to the fall and essentially take away the summit, and have one large event in the fall called The Blueberry Convention. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the end of the season, gather everybody together, and that is where we will grow the trade show floor to have more expansive education offerings and more opportunities for folks to gather and to meet,” said Amanda Griffin vice president of engagement and education at USHBC and NABC. #GoBlueberries #InspiringPossibilities #TheBusinessofBlueberriesPodcast https://lnkd.in/gTskHY8D

There are many parallels between bootstrapping a new business and starting a nonprofit. Sadly, too many nonprofits continue to operate from a bootstrapping mindset. While businesses can take more risks, invest in their message/marketing and write off their losses, nonprofits are generally demonized for doing the same things in an effort to try to grow their organizations. How could we be doing things better or differently to encourage our NGO partners to solve the worlds biggest problems, in the way that only nonprofits can? The answer is complex and will vary greatly for each nonprofit, just like success for each business can look very different. I love this conversation and rethinking the way we approach charity.
We are honored to have partnered with Utah Valley University for this Uncharitable Movie screening! The Age-Old Debate: Pineapple on Pizza at Enrollment Conferences? 🍍🍕 I recently spoke at the Western Boarding Schools Association's 2024 Spring Conference in Colorado Springs, and wow, what an experience! Beyond the rich discussions and invaluable networking, a lighter debate stole the show – pineapple on pizza. Yes, you read that right. Diving into sessions and workshops with industry peers like @jason-brooks-97147b4, @malotke-meslin, @dr-reggie-thomas-3376731b2, and @andrewpcocco was invigorating. These gatherings are a testament to the collective wisdom within our community and an incredible opportunity for personal growth. However, during an ice-breaking section of Jason Brooks' presentation, the unexpected topic emerged: Pineapple on pizza—yea or nay? This light-hearted debate not only provided comic relief but also underscored the beauty of these conferences. Amidst rigorous discussions and learning exchanges lies the essence of connection over simple human moments. So here’s to more enlightening seminars, innovative ideas...and solving culinary controversies! And remember, beyond every successful educational strategy lies a team that can both seriously transform student inquiries and enjoyably debate pizza toppings. Let's keep creating spaces where both can thrive! P.S. For those curious about my stance – I'm firmly on team #NoPineappleBelongs. What's yours?

Chief of Growth and Marketing and Strategy • Beer Market Analyst • Beerconomy CEO • Thought Catalyst • Advisor • Sherpa and Speaker — sharing beer market trends, insights, statistics and forecasts via The Beerconomist
While not widely known, St. Nicholas, among his many patronages includes brewers. In fact, he is the patron saint of brewers. Really. I’m sure of it. I think. The way we think of St. Nick in America begins with the publication of Twas the Night Before Christmas: A Visit From St, Nicholas by Clement C. Moore in 1823. First published in 1823, it is largely responsible for the conception of Santa Claus from the mid-nineteenth century to today, including his physical appearance, the night of his visit, his mode of transportation, the number and names of his reindeer, and the tradition that he brings toys to children. Prior to the poem, American ideas about St. Nicholas and other Christmastide visitors varied considerably. The poem has influenced ideas about St. Nicholas and Santa Claus beyond the United States to the rest of the Anglosphere and the world. There you have it — we Americans taking credit for another institution and its origins. We’re good at this 🤓 We’re still trying to come up with a believable narrative on how America invented the wheel. But we will — in a bar or pub 🥸. “Beer🍺, it’s what America drinks.” — Stephen Carter King #Christmas #StNick #SantaClause #Beer #CraftBeer #Taproom #Brewpub #ConsumerBehavior #BrandAwareness #BusinessIntelligence #SocietalSubcurrents ✦ ✦ ✦ Stephen Carter King Chief of Growth and Marketing + Beerconomist • Sherpa • Team Leader • CEO of Beerconomy & Co., a Kings Crossing subsidiary Steve@KingsCrossing.com Beerconomy is a data and business intelligence source, empowering people with insights.
