On Sunday, the world will come together to mark World Day for Safety & Health at Work. This year's theme "The impact of climate change on occupational safety and health" recognises the critical role climate change plays in shaping the future workplace. At Puma Energy, we’re working hard to reduce our environmental impact to combat climate change. For example, we’re reducing carbon emissions across our value chain by installing solar panels at more than 300 of our Puma branded retail stations and implementing efficiency measures at our Manref Refinery in Nicaragua. And in Africa, we’re supporting the energy transition by offering our industrial customers solar solutions and our consumers LPG solutions for clean cooking.    We’re also implementing safety and sustainable practices, such as our In Vehicle Monitoring System programme to encourage safer driver behaviour and reduce the risk of spills, and we’re developing innovative products for our global bitumen business which support a circular economy. And when the impact of climate change causes extreme weather, such as last year when the heavy rains caused severe flooding in Mozambique, we made sure our employees were safe and supported the community by donating fuel to power boats used in the rescue operation. Did you know the energy extracted annually by 1 million wind turbines is 6.3072×10^19 J/year, which would slow down the Earth's rotation by approximately 2.22 x 10^-13 seconds per year? Imagine the impact as we harness even more wind power! 🌪️ Understanding Wind Roses: A Wind Rose is not just a picturesque representation of wind patterns; it's a dynamic tool that provides insights into the direction and intensity of wind at a specific location over time. In process safety, comprehending these wind patterns is fundamental to anticipating potential risks and safeguarding our industrial environments. 🌎 Unique Wind Roses: San Francisco, USA: The coastal city experiences the cool and foggy marine layer known as the "San Francisco fog" driven by the temperature differences between the Pacific Ocean and inland areas. The fog can influence wind patterns and visibility in the area. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Influenced by the trade winds and the South Atlantic Convergence Zone, Rio de Janeiro experiences variable and sometimes unpredictable wind patterns. These wind patterns can affect weather conditions, especially during certain times of the year. Reykjavik, Iceland: Located near the Arctic Circle and North Atlantic, Reykjavik experiences variable and often brisk winds. Wind patterns are influenced by the interaction of cold Arctic air with warmer ocean currents, affecting local weather conditions. ⚖️ QRA and Process Safety: Quantitative Risk Assessment is the cornerstone of ensuring safety in complex industrial setups. By employing Wind Roses, we gain a nuanced understanding of how hazardous substances might disperse under different wind conditions. This, in turn, allows us to quantify and mitigate potential risks, fostering a secure working environment. Permits must be obtained from regulatory bodies. 2. **Well Plugging and Abandonment (P&A)**: - Wells are permanently sealed using cement plugs to prevent fluid migration between formations and to the surface. 3. **Platform and Infrastructure Removal**: - Offshore platforms and onshore facilities are dismantled and removed. We had a fantastic evening last week with Rewiring Australia, where MyNu Energy's co-founder and Director John Myler joined Saul Griffiths on the panel at the Electrify Everything event in Brisbane, along with Kate Raymond CEO of masters Electricians and Anne Kennedy, Chair, Zero Emissions Noosa. The topic was making the most of Australia's energy future and electrifying everything; which is to replace our fossil fuel run machines with efficient, electric alternatives powered by renewable energy. 'We need a realistic and achievable vision for the future because the future is coming fast. We have only about one-quarter of one century, twenty-five years, one human generation, to get ourselves out of this climate quandary. If we get this right, if we design the incentives and the policies and the regulations correctly, communities will thrive. Every Australian will benefit economically, socially and even health-wise.
