As you'd know that right now the T20 world cup 2024 is being played in USA and the West Indies ( a bunch of carribean islands). If you've grown up in India then you'd know how important Cricket is. It is not just a sport, it is a part of of our cultural fabric, some would even call it a religion. There are numerous lessons that the sport has taught us. The biggest of those lessons IMO has been teamwork. One of the most amazing lessons on teamwork can be seen in the dressing room of the Indian Cricket team. Since the 2023 ODI world cup, a new tradition of best fielder awards was started by T Dileep, the fielding coach of India. It is awarded to the best fielder of the day in a small ceremony after the game irrespective of the team winning or losing the game. The most remarkable aspect of this award is not only players strive to do their best on the field to win this medal but also cheer for each other during the ceremony. The ceremony is hosted by the fielding coach himself and the way he appreciates the team is a great lesson in leadership. This ceremony has brought the team closer and has been instrumental in recognizing fielding as one of the key aspects of the game which was rather underrated for so many years. What do we learn from this - we learn that it is important to celebrate every little success, respect and care for each other, a healthy competition between team members that makes them do better, how to back your team as a leader and most importantly a focus on constantly doing better. In our daily projects, we see a lot of friction between team members, unhealthy competition and blame game. This little ceremony tells us exactly why we need to do the opposite and how.
