Did you see that Soteria Community Development Corporation is hosting a Reentry Simulation this Thursday evening as part of Second Chance Month? This allows participants to find out firsthand the realities and challenges of reentry. Going to prison is a major life-altering event that creates obstacles to building stable lives in the community, such as gaining living wage employment and finding stable safe housing after release. South Carolina is one of 12 states where more than half the prison population is Black, and Greenville County has both the highest incarceration rate and reentry rate in the state. Recent findings from Brookings noted more than half of the formerly incarcerated are unable to find stable employment within their first year of return. Research has demonstrated that health, housing, skill development, mentorship, social networks, and the collaborative efforts of public and private organizations collectively improve the reentry experience. By experiencing these complex obstacles and barriers in the simulation, participants gain visibility into the individuals’ perspectives and discover innovative ways to help these individuals succeed. You can learn more and register to attend at https://ow.ly/6vjp50Rgw8E. #accessandadvanceatwork #greenvillesc #advanceandthrive #secondchancemonth

Empowering Your Real Estate Journey with Expert Guidance and Cutting-Edge Solutions | 5-Star Service | Wealth-Building Strategies Liz Jones DRE#01933366
As someone deeply involved in the local community, I've seen firsthand the impact of transparent governance and community engagement. When I moved to Murrieta, I wanted to understand how local government worked and how I could contribute to making our city better. This journey has taught me the importance of sustainable development and supporting essential services like fire and police departments. One of the most rewarding aspects is seeing how community involvement can lead to real change. By attending council meetings, engaging with local representatives, and advocating for responsible growth, we can all play a part in shaping the future of our cities. What’s one way you think we can improve community engagement in local governance? #CommunityInvolvement #LocalGovernment #California

California Democratic Delegate to Senator Becker San Mateo County CJS Reform Advocate, Victim Advocate, Community Activist, Homeless Advocate, Certified Drug Substance Counselor.
Good morning community🙏🌈! Another great article that describes my service to my community across San Mateo County. My position is absolutely clear to all sides in this race as to where I stand on issues plaguing our county. There has been absolutely no flip flopping or back sliding on where I stand. I know where I come from, and I know what the people tell me they need to live better lives here in SMC🙏. Establishing working relationships should never mean compromising your moral compass or ethicall duties to the people. Who I am, if I see something wrong, I’lll always call it out. It does not matter who it is doing the wrong✊. Assimilating into the political arena has not been easy. System impacted means exactly that. People represent systems, and we need to move our Democratic Party toward a more sustainable people representing people model. We need to be fighting to protect people, not the systems themselves.✊🇺🇸 those systems are based on traditions and attitudes of the past, and we need to start looking ahead, into the future, or else our future will look like our past, because that is all you can see. You can’t paint your own picture because the system only provides you the materials to keep the current picture exactly the same. I break cages, I break chains, and I hope to break this political barrier in San Mateo County so we can addresss some of our District issues with a new model of acceptance that includes everyone, regardless of your age, gender, religion, immigration, status, economical status, or educational status. I only see people, that’s it.🙏🇺🇸 https://lnkd.in/gHzPJCEV?

The More for Memphis plan has six interrelated focus areas: Education & Youth, Economic Development, Arts & Culture, Community Development, Health & Well-Being, and Justice & Safety. Each strategy outlined in the plan fits into at least one focus area, with several actually leading to better outcomes in two or more areas. For example, the inclusion of school-based health centers in local community schools can improve resident health while also decreasing chronic absenteeism rates for students. #ByTheNumbers #MoreforMemphis

In 2021, it was estimated that 77 percent of eligible youth in foster care aged 14 to 21 left care without receiving federally funded services to prepare them for adulthood and independent living. Providing preventative and supportive care to foster youth can significantly reduce the number of them who become involved in the criminal justice system and experience homelessness after emancipation.
