Let's Ensure Inclusive Healthcare for LGBTQ+ Seniors! 🌈 As part of my dissertation topic, I'm shedding light on the critical need for LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare services for seniors within the community. 🏳️🌈 👵👴 Did you know that many LGBTQ+ seniors face significant barriers when accessing healthcare services? These barriers can include discrimination, lack of understanding from healthcare providers, and a shortage of LGBTQ+ affirming resources. ❗️ We must work together to change this! By advocating for LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare services, we can ensure that all seniors receive the respectful and inclusive care they deserve. 🔍 Here's what you can do to help: 1️⃣ Educate Yourself: Take the time to learn about the unique healthcare needs and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ seniors. 2️⃣ Advocate for Change: Support policies and initiatives that promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity in healthcare settings. 3️⃣ Spread Awareness: Share resources and information within your network to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ healthcare disparities among seniors. 4️⃣ Support LGBTQ+ Organizations: Consider donating your time or resources to organizations that provide healthcare services specifically tailored to LGBTQ+ seniors. ✨ Together, we can create a healthcare system that is truly inclusive and supportive of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Included Health conducted a national study with more than 1,500 LGBTQ+ employees from Fortune 100 companies to understand their healthcare experiences. LGBTQ+ issues are diverse and complicated. Historically #LGBTQ+ people have faced discrimination in every area of their lives from employment to housing to healthcare. Along with AARP research, scholarly research supports the notion that LGBTQ+ people sometimes create strategies to avoid discrimination such as going back into the closet to find suitable housing, or forgoing essential healthcare which could ultimately lead to negative physical and mental health outcomes, thereby jeopardizing their longevity. AARP Policy, Research, and Thought Leadership has conducted research to increase our understanding of the lived experience of LGBTQ+ adults age 45+ in the areas of health care access, financial security, caregiving, isolation, and relationships (and more) through the Dignity Series. We began with AARP’s landmark research studies: Maintaining Dignity: A Survey of LGBT Adults Age 45 and Older in 2017, The State of LGBTQ Dignity 2020: A Supplement to Maintaining Dignity Pre-Covid-19, which was released in 2021 and Dignity 2022: The Experience of LGBTQ Older Adults.  In August 2024, AARP will release Dignity 2024: The Experience of LGBTQ+ Adults. This designation means a lot to me as an employee of Children's Minnesota, and as an individual. As an organization, it means that we have foundational policies and training in LGBTQ+ patient-centered care. We have policies and benefits that are inclusive of our LGBTQ+ staff. As an individual, it means I can be more than an ally. I can be an agitator who affects positive change for the people we serve and the people who serve them. Being even a small part of progress is a big deal! Here's just some of what Children's Minnesota does to earn this redesignation: - The Children’s Minnesota gender health program. - Collecting patients’ pronouns and preferred name. - Updating patient care policies and procedures to be inclusive of gender and all family types. - Advocacy for LGBTQ+ supportive policies at the state legislature. - An active and engaged employee resource group (ERG) for LGBTQ+ employees and allies. - Educational efforts to ensure employees have the skills, knowledge and abilities to provide an inclusive care environment. #KidExperts

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and open environment for all members of the Leap Orbit team. And part of that allyship is calling out the work that still needs to be done within the healthcare industry to ensure that all patients have access to compassionate, inclusive and equitable care. Many health organizations are implementing initiatives to improve the LGBTQ+ healthcare experience. Why? Because individuals in the community can face misunderstanding, discrimination, and even violence in care settings--and this causes many to delay or avoid treatment. While LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming care providers aren't standard filters on most provider directories (though we'd love to see it), there is a public resource available to help patients find care providers thanks to the Tegan and Sara Foundation, GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality, and Cigna Healthcare. Supporting LGBTQ+ Seniors This Pride Month As we celebrate Pride Month, it's essential to remember the unique needs of LGBTQ+ seniors, who often face additional challenges and discrimination. Here are some tips for providing sensitive and respectful care: Understand Their History: Approach care with empathy, considering their past experiences with discrimination. Many LGBTQ+ seniors may not feel safe disclosing their identity due to past trauma. It's PRIDE Month 🌈 , and we think it’s an important time to shed light on the challenges  faced by LGBTQ+ adults when it comes to healthcare. According to a KFF report from earlier this year, one-third (33%) of LGBTQ+ adults have experienced unfair or disrespectful treatment or have had at least one negative experience with a healthcare provider. Among those who reported negative healthcare experiences in the past three years, nearly one-quarter (24%) said these experiences worsened their health. 👎 Creating inclusive and accepting healthcare environments is crucial. 🤝 We are excited about the work being done by OutCare in this area. OutCare has developed 'The OutList,' a comprehensive database of LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare providers. Additionally, they provide community resources, health equity CEU training, patient experience design, and more. By supporting initiatives like those from OutCare, we can help ensure that everyone receives respectful and competent healthcare, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. 💗 #inclusivity #patientexperience #pridemonth

Here’s the truth about my niche. It’s the result of a series of micro pivots throughout the course of my business. After working with around 50 clients, I noticed the majority of people coming to me for help were individuals looking to escape the corporate system - like I once did. Underrepresented communities including: ↳ Women, especially working Mothers ↳ People of Color ↳ LGBTQ ↳ Neurodiverse ↳ Disabled Cookie cutter, corporate America is no longer working for them. They want to create the inclusive opportunities they need for themselves by going into business for themselves. I pivoted my niche and haven’t looked back ever since.
