Today, we commemorate the Day of Brazil’s Indigenous Peoples - custodians of forest wisdom, vital to the ecological restoration cycle. At re.green, we are proud to actively collaborate with indigenous communities, engaging in knowledge exchange across all our initiatives. ⤵️ ▶️ Preserving the Earth: Bioflora and Cooplanjé In Bahia, we have forged strategic partnerships, including one with Cooplanjé, a collective of native seedling producers hailing from the Pataxó Boca da Mata Indigenous village. Through this collaboration, they supply us with high-quality Atlantic Forest seedlings, while we provide invaluable feedback to aid in the enhancement of their seed nursery operations. Our shared objective is to foster entrepreneurship and drive socioeconomic advancement within the local community. ▶️ Custodians of the Forest 🌳 Brazil is home to a vibrant indigenous population of over 1 million individuals, serving as the custodians of our planet's vital forest ecosystems. Their profound knowledge and stewardship are instrumental in driving our collective mission to restore forests and preserve biodiversity. #EcologicalRestoration #regreen #DeliveringNetZero #NatureBasedSolutions #Biodiversity #ESG #Sustainability #ScienceBasedSolutions #SustainableBusiness

🌲 Happy International Day of Forests! Celebrated for over 10 years now, this United Nations day aims to raise awareness of the importance of forests and the need for sustainable management practices. ⬇ Here are 3 ways we're making a difference: 🌳 1. Beyond our 38,000 ha of planted land & internal community areas, we steward 67,000 ha of undeveloped natural forest – for scale, this represents a land mass over 6 times the size of Paris! This stewardship represents our commitment to preserving local biodiversity and also safeguards the forest’s natural resources for the benefit of indigenous communities who may inhabit these areas. 🛰 2. Our No Deforestation commitment is monitored annually through third-party satellite service MapHubs, and verified by a third-party consultant. 🐘 3. We've proudly signed our third 5-year convention with the UNESCO World Heritage Dja Faunal Reserve, dedicated to assisting in the fight against poaching. This land is home to numerous species of conservation concern, such as the western lowland gorilla, forest elephant and chimpanzee. https://lnkd.in/ex5GBDXq

OUT NOW: Flagship report details the dazzling diversity of Mekong's Forgotten Fishes 🐟 - highlighting how critical they are to communities, economies & ecosystems. And how quickly they are disappearing. Produced by 26 local & international organizations, including Conservation International, the first-of-its-kind report celebrates the at least 1,148 fish species in the Mekong - making it the 3rd most biodiverse river on Earth. And outlines the scale and importance of the Mekong’s inland fishery - the largest on the planet. It produces 15% of the world’s annual inland fish catch, generates US$11 billion per year, and supports the food security & livelihoods of over 40 million people. The Mekong’s fishes are also central to the health of the entire river system and the survival of countless species, including the last 89 river dolphins in the river. Yet, these extraordinary fishes continue to be undervalued & overlooked - and an estimated 19% are already facing extinction. At this rate, we will lose them all - with devastating consequences for communities, economies and ecosystems. But it is not all doom & gloom. The report shows there is a path to a brighter future as long as we all act now. Communities have proven solutions. Countries can join the Freshwater Challenge and implement an Emergency Recovery Plan for freshwater biodiversity. Together, we can safeguard the future of the Mekong and its fish - and all the people who depend on them. LEARN MORE: https://lnkd.in/gQfmnV_e

Making sense of INSECT PROTEIN as opposed to using Fish Meal in the Animal & Aqua Feed Industries, where +/- 25 million tons of Pelagic Fish species are caught annually. I’ve connected with you for a specific reason.
Here’s a classic example of why we do NOT need the VCM community in sub Saharan Africa…they are NOT here to safeguard our Flora & Fauna, instead they see our Ecosystems as potential bank accounts, to use as bait or collateral to lure the Corporate World, not to invest in these same Ecosystem’s in Africa, but instead to invest in Blue Chip Companies in Europe which offer these same VCM entities the opportunity to make a fast buck…at Africa’s expense! One only has to look at what Swiss based South Pole did in Zimbabwe with their so-called flagship “Kariba Project”…they raised in excess of a billion Euros over a decade, all of which ended up being invested in Europe & Asia…these are NOT the type of individuals we want in Africa, instead we want the Greg Carr’s of this world, who are not only genuine in what they hope to achieve with our Ecosystems, but they do it quietly without standing on Swiss Mountain tops bragging about becoming millionaires from their involvement in Africa…
#TellYourStory: Gorongosa National Park. Gorongosa National Park, situated in what used to be a warzone in Mozambique, is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife restoration stories. Gorongosa was made possible through a public-private partnership between philanthropist (and voicemail inventor) Greg Carr and the Government of Mozambique to rejuvenate Mount Gorongosa’s rainforests. Local farmers and park experts are collaborating to harness the power of shade-grown coffee, build a more sustainable economy, and create a brighter future for local residents and wildlife. Rainforests in Southeast Asia and Oceania are under pressure with large, contiguous forests only being apparent on the islands of Borneo and New Guinea - a drastic difference from 39 years ago where lush rainforests filled the region. Satellite imagery further illustrates the rapid rate of deforestation in Kalimantan, indicating that 56% of protected lowland rainforests were cut down between 1985 and 2001 amounting to 29,000 square kilometres of the rainforest being lost. The Rainforest Foundation Norway elaborates on this issue, sharing that not only has this resulted in the displacement of some of the world’s most species-rich ecosystems in the world, but has also jeopardized the standard of living of communities whose livelihoods are dependent on the rainforests. If this continues, more of this demographic will lose their homes, as seen in Borneo, where 2.5 million indigenous people have been displaced. Even as sustainability is a strategic priority for ChemOne, we recognize that the continued success of the Group is dependent on how we balance our business objectives, meet the needs of our people and the communities as well as do our part to protect the environment. 💡 At Wovoka, we have always recognized the importance of local ecological knowledge (LEK) in providing a holistic view of any mangrove ecosystem crucial for its conservation. 🍃 Since day one, our ethos and practice have been catered to local contexts, made possible by our constant engagement with the community. 👥 🤝 🌐 Recently, the Global Mangrove Alliance released a guide for mangrove practitioners and researchers, which features 21 case studies globally that used LEK in their mangrove conservation and restoration initiatives. They defined LEK as “the knowledge, practices, and beliefs gained through extensive personal observation of and interaction with local ecosystems which is shared among local resource users and is typically handed down through generations of local inhabitants, often Indigenous.” This guide echoes our belief that integrating LEK is a MUST for the success of environmental conservation projects. *** Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gTsBYiR6 #mangroves #community #localknowledge #conservation #naturebasedsolutions #partnerships #bluecarbon

The Sustainable Finance for Tiger Landscapes Conference concluded today on a high note, marking a historic moment for global conservation efforts. The conference was opened yesterday by Her Majesty The Queen of Bhutan, under whose patronage this effort to mobilise greater support for protecting tigers and tiger landscapes has come to fruition. In an address at the opening ceremony, Her Majesty spoke about the urgency of protecting tiger habitats to safeguard the wellbeing of our planet, and the importance of sustainable funding to carry out this task. Her Majesty said "In our commitment to conservation, we must not neglect the realistic and vital need for sustainable funding. All too often, the invaluable work of conservationists is impeded by the unpredictability of financial support. Therefore, the intention of this conference is to raise significant resources through innovative financing mechanisms for tiger landscapes.” The Paro Statement for Tigers sets a billion-dollar commitment to biodiversity conservation and #tigerfinance: ow.ly/NKyX50RmHbj #FutureWithTigers #investintigers
