Ahead of #WorldHumanitarianDay on 19 August, World Vision South Asia Pacific salutes our frontline humanitarians dedicated to the well-being of children in the worst of disasters. We also celebrate faith leaders who provide humanitarian assistance to their immediate community. They play a crucial role by providing physical refuge, and psychosocial support, and coordinating other relief efforts in their communities. Additionally, their involvement in peacebuilding and conflict resolution is essential in fostering dialogue and reconciliation in conflict-affected areas. In the context of weak national governance and widespread instability, we’re still hard at work in the #Sahel. How? By focusing on grassroots #peacebuilding efforts of people who call this region home. 👉 Empowering vulnerable #youth 65% of the Sahel’s population are under 25. In their efforts to break free from the binds of poverty, many of them become easy 🎯 targets for extremist groups. 🔹 We provide youth with #leadership and conflict resolution training to channel their energy and ideas ↪️ towards peaceful solutions. 🔹 We also work with local authorities and security forces to identify at-risk youth early on and 🤲 reintegrate them into their communities. 👉 Building bridges and improving trust We established 🗣️ forums where local authorities, communities, and security and defence forces collaborate to solve common problems and peacefully resolve disputes, giving previously unheard groups a 📣 voice in local decision-making. 👉 Engaging women as peacebuilders We endorsed 👩🏾 women’s participation in #ConflictPrevention mechanisms and natural resource governance. Women now make up 21% of local land commissions members in certain areas where we work, up from zero. 💡 Here’s a powerful example: women mediators successfully secured the release of healthcare workers held by armed groups. It shows just how crucial women are to the #peace process. Our grassroots work focuses on preventing conflict escalation and promoting regional stability. More about our approach to working in the Sahel: https://lnkd.in/evsYjgHv 💬 What’s your take on grassroots peacebuilding efforts? Have you seen similar strategies work elsewhere?
