According to the latest UNHCR data, 117.3 million people were forcibly displaced at the end of 2023 due to persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations, and public disorder, equating to 1 in 69 people globally. The number of asylum-seekers awaiting decisions rose by 26% to 6.9 million, as new applications exceeded decisions. These figures stem from the failure to maintain peace and security. The frequency, scope, duration, and intensity of conflicts, as measured by conflict-related fatalities, closely correlate with the annual number of people forced to flee both within their own countries and internationally. #displacement #IDP #refugees #humanitarian https://lnkd.in/dmTJkCBu

Protecting vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and people with disabilities is a moral duty we all share. During the war, offering humanitarian aid saves lives, eases suffering, shields civilians, and promotes peace. Reaching out to help others in need flows from our common humanity and desire to relieve suffering. In war zones, impartial humanitarian groups are vital to assist while upholding humanitarian law's principles. #PovertyAlleviation #PeacefulTradingCoexistence #GenderEquality #HumanRights #SustainableWorld #COVID19Impact #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #WomenLeadership #GenderStatistics #Goal5 #ChildMarriage #FemaleGenitalMutilation #WomenInPolitics #EqualRepresentation #peaceandsecurity #peacenotwar #peace International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC American Red Cross USAID United Nations UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) Amnesty International Oxfam Oxfam International UK Civil Service World Humanity Commission International Humanity Chamber of Commerce Dr. Waheed Musah Dr Desziree Richardson Dr. Zaheer Ahmad MBE

Yemeni local aid workers are dedicated individuals, often leaving behind their families, navigate high-risk zones to deliver critical aid across the country. They are not combatants and must never be targeted for violence or harassment. International humanitarian law and norms clearly prohibit attacks on aid workers and civilians regardless of ethnicity or origin. Harassment and discriminatory practices at security checkpoints, hindering movement based on ethnicity, constitute a clear violation of human rights. And will only exacerbate the suffering of vulnerable populations and impede the delivery of life-saving aid. #internationalhumanitarianlaw #humansecurity #riskmanagement #humanrights #conflict #peace #yemen

Report on Secretary-General António Guterres's Advocacy for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid in Afghanistan Secretary-General António Guterres, in a recent discussion held in Doha, expressed his vision for a peaceful Afghanistan that respects human rights and fulfils its international obligations. The focus of the discussion was on addressing critical issues such as the ban on girls' access to education, restrictions on women's employment, and the broader humanitarian crisis faced by many Afghans. #BreakingNews #CurrentAffairs #WorldNews #TopStories #Headlines #NewsUpdate #GlobalEvents #HotTopics #LatestNews #IntheNews #TrendingNow #LiveUpdates #DailyNews #NewsAlert #WorldAffairs #NewsFlash #MustRead #PressRelease #FrontPage #MediaWatch Detailed link-https://lnkd.in/giD_sqgN

Yesterday I took the time to dive into the 2023 Global Trends Report by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and here are some key takeaways that stood out to me, especially concerning women and gender equality: Fighting Statelessness: It’s disheartening to see that gender discrimination in nationality laws is still causing statelessness. We must push for reforms so every child can have a nationality from birth. Equal rights are non-negotiable. Empowering Displaced Women: Women and girls make up a staggering 51% of all internally displaced persons (IDPs). With better sex-disaggregated data, we can address their unique challenges more effectively. This data is vital for developing gender-specific strategies that support their resilience and self-reliance. Collaborative Policy Reform: I’m encouraged by the formation of the Global Alliance to End Statelessness. Bringing together governments, UN entities, and civil society to tackle gender discrimination and childhood statelessness is a significant step forward. The Power of Data: Accurate and comprehensive data is a game-changer. The International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS) provide a solid foundation for crafting policies that truly protect stateless populations. Improved data collection is key to meeting their protection needs. Legislative Wins in 2023: It is encouraging to see countries like Moldova, North Macedonia, Kyrgyzstan, and the Bahamas taking bold steps to prevent statelessness. Ensuring that no child is born stateless is a monumental victory for human rights. These insights underscore how deeply interconnected gender equality, statelessness, and democracy are. By addressing these issues collectively, we can foster more inclusive and just societies. As scholars and practitioners, it is imperative that we continue to support and advocate for comprehensive policies that promote gender equality and protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of their nationality status. Integrating empirical data and collaborative approaches is fundamental to developing effective strategies to address these critical global issues. At the European Initiative for Gender Inclusive Democracy, we are committed to doing our part in advancing these efforts. #HumanRights #eigid #GenderEquality #Democracy #Statelessness #GlobalTrends2023 #UNHCR

SAFE is deeply concerned about the growing instances of racial and Islamophobic violence in the UK. This unsettling development poses a major risk to children, particularly those from migrant and refugee backgrounds who have already experienced severe trauma. As an international partnership dedicated to protecting children in families, we have a clear perspective on how hate and extremist rhetoric jeopardise the safety and well-being of all children, especially the most at risk. Observing the spread of such animosity in the UK is profoundly troubling. SAFE is proud to support and advocate for asylum seekers, refugees, and displaced individuals and families. We want them to know that the views of a minority do not represent us all. We stand with those impacted by this violence and discrimination, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to defend children, and irradiate racism and violence. SAFE strongly urges political leaders to denounce and condemn divisive narratives that threaten and endanger the safety and futures of children and communities both here and overseas. #ProtectChildren #EndRacism #ChildProtection #DefendChildren #SafeInternational #EndChildViolence #SAFE

November 25 - ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINTS WOMEN Were you aware that almost one in three women worldwide has experienced physical or sexual violence? It's high time we break the silence and take concrete actions. This issue is pervasive, infiltrating workplaces, online spaces, and intensifying due to post-pandemic effects, conflicts, and climate change. Shockingly, just 5% of government aid is allocated to address this issue, with less than 0.2% dedicated to prevention. SIPRI (Sus Inima Programmes for Refugee Integration) has a dedicated Protection Department actively working to help and prevent these issues. This involves also safeguarding refugees from harm, exploitation, and discrimination, ensuring their rights and dignity are upheld throughout their journey to integration. In the context of women's protection, SIPRI's Protection Department plays a vital role in preventing this kind of violence, fostering a safe and supportive environment. #SIPRI #protection #support #change #endviolenceagainstwomen #November25 #breakthesilence
