🌍💡 Is the EU Catching Up to the US and China GreenTech Market? EU lawmakers have just sealed the deal on the Net Zero Industrial Act (NZIA), marking a significant step forward for green technology production in Europe. By 2030, the goal is for 40% of the bloc's demand to be met by local green innovations. Key technologies such as solar power, wind energy, batteries, and renewable hydrogen are in focus, highlighting a shift towards sustainability. In response to global initiatives, the NZIA streamlines processes, fostering a more competitive environment for European businesses. This move accelerates innovation and positions Europe as a frontrunner in the global green tech race. 🔔 Towards a Global #Hydrogen #Trade 🌍: As the technical secretariat of the International Hydrogen Trade Forum (#IHTF), the UNIDO team was honoured to support the Ministerial-Executive Roundtable, organized on May 13 in Rotterdam, the #Netherlands. Read more: ➡https://lnkd.in/dykZpN59 ✅The International Hydrogen Trade Forum and Hydrogen Council hosted the roundtable, which was chaired by Rob Jetten, Minister for Climate and Energy Policy and Deputy Prime Minister of The Netherlands. ✅UNIDO Managing Director Gunther Beger highlighted the Organization's commitment to this high-level dialogue: "…The latest IHTF analysis shows how a truly global hydrogen economy has the potential to create up to 25 million jobs by 2050 in the sector. UNIDO as IHTF Secretariat fully supports public-private collaboration in the creation of cross-border trade corridors to drive a just transition to a green hydrogen economy that leaves no one behind". ➡ About #IHTF: Established in 2023 during the G20/CEM14 in India, IHTF fosters Ministerial-Executive dialogues to enhance cooperation and align efforts in developing global hydrogen supply chains. This promotes security of supply, diversification, and facilitates a just transition. ✅The roundtable discussion on May 13 drew on insights from IHTF and the Hydrogen Council's analysis of emerging trade routes and hubs, identifying three critical aspects to scale a global #hydrogentrade: 🗝Greater clarity, certainty and support for demand drivers. 🗝Infrastructure development for interregional corridors, allowing technologies to compete without ‘picking winners’ to allow the most cost-effective and sustainable solutions to thrive. 🗝Aligned and consistent global market rules, industry standards and mutually recognized certification schemes. ☑ Mr Gunther Beger represented UNIDO at this Ministerial-Executive Roundtable, supported by Petra Schwager, Margherita Tenedini and Magde Nikolovska-Jilke. @photo by Netherlands Enterprise Agency

As a member of the Global Gateway Business Advisory Group, we have been discussing the developments of the Global Gateway toolbox with the European Commission and other industry participants over the past months. But what exactly does this mean for markets and countries? At the recent Germany Trade & Invest webinar, our Policy and Regulation Manager Erhan Erdogan discussed just that with his fellow panelists! In developing sectors, such as the hydrogen economy, the implementation of projects depends heavily on economic factors, but not only. Often bilateral agreements between countries or energy partnerships can guide market participants by aligning policies, regulations and reducing trade barriers. To facilitate this, we expect a diverse toolbox of support possibilities from the Global Gateway initiative, like the establishment of international partnerships, simplified access to European instruments/funding, strategic orientation and the creation of a resilient market environment that enables investments. We also believe that cooperation with strategic regions is important, such as the MENA region, which is currently receiving little attention. The Global Gateway Initiative in general has a lot of potential as it aims to provide both financial and regulatory support to industries such as the hydrogen industry. We look forward to contributing to the further development of the initiative and communicating the needs of the private sector. We support the establishment of a “one-stop-shop”, the creation of new financing tools targeting innovative technologies and transparency on provided support measures. Thanks to Wilhelm Emmrich, Lisa Flatten and Björn Schildberg for the productive and enjoyable exchange! #LOHC #hydrogen #energytransition
