The aim of MARINERG-i is to accelerate the research, development and deployment of all offshore renewable energy technologies including offshore wind (fixed and floating), wave, tidal, offshore solar and combined energy technologies including energy storage and electrical components. To experience first hand the developments in the offshore renewable energy sector, partners of the project visited the @EDF Renouvelables  offshore wind farm and the @Floatgen floating wind demonstrator at the @SEM REV test site in the Atlantic near Saint Nazaire last week. A newly formed consortium comprising UK-based renewable energy developer 17 Energy and Chilean company SC Power has announced plans to develop a 960 MW floating offshore wind farm named Viento Azul Biobío (VAB) off the coast of Chile’s Biobío Region. Daniel Perdomo, Director at 17 Energy, emphasized the project's significance for Chile's energy future, highlighting its potential to create jobs, drive economic growth, and protect the environment. The consortium aims to work closely with local communities, industry, and government to support the large-scale decarbonization of Chile's electricity network. Rodrigo Corvalán of SC Power emphasized the transformative potential of offshore wind energy for Chile, focusing on community empowerment and new opportunities for local industry and businesses. The VAB offshore wind farm could have a capacity between 500 MW and 1 GW and may also produce green hydrogen or sustainable fuels. The project, featuring 64 floating wind turbines each with a 15 MW output, represents a $4.3 billion investment. ✍ ✨ Havfram has the pleasure to proclaim the signing of yet another significant contract today: 🤝 🎉 We are beyond thrilled to have been selected by our partners Vattenfall and BASF Renewable Energy for the Nordlicht offshore wind farm cluster. As signed on WindEnergy Hamburg today, we are going to deliver transport and installation support for a total of 112 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines to Nordlicht cluster, consisting of wind farms Nordlicht I and Nordlicht II. ⚙ The works are scheduled to commence in the summer of 2027. The contract adds to Havfram's already strong backlog. For both projects, Havfram will utilize one of its state-of-the-art Wind Turbine Installation vessels, currently under construction. ♻ 💪 🔆 Once fully operational, the Nordlicht I and II projects’ combined production is expected to be around 6 terawatt-hours (TWh) per year. Upon a request from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia - ეკონომიკის სამინისტრო to International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Agency had embarked on a Renewable Readiness Assessment (RRA) process in the country. In partnership with the Ministry, IRENA facilitated an Expert Validation Workshop as virtual event yesterday to engage large number of relevant stakeholders and discuss challenges and validate draft recommendations for the development of renewables and #energytransition in #Georgia. The outcomes of the discussions provided substantive inputs for the finalization of short- to medium-term actions and recommendations to improve the conditions and remove the existing barriers to scale up the #renewable power.
