Space launch and returns is a big opportunity for Australia. The launch sector down under is growing rapidly and the recent Technology Safeguards Agreement signed by the US and Australia promises to bring new space & sub-orbital launch activity into Australia from the USA. These were amongst the topics of an expert panel that our CEO Matt A. Hill participated in at this week's Space Industry Association of Australia #SouthernSpace 2024 conference in Canberra, attending together with our Deputy Chairman & Co-Founder David Waterhouse. Hypersonix Launch Systems Ltd is at the forefront of this industry with our #DeltaVelos future concept hypersonic aircraft that will literally fly to space and return to land like a plane, and our work advocating for the regulatory reform required to enable co-operative hypersonic flight in Australian airspace. A wonderful discussion. Thanks to fellow panelists and friends Rebecca Darcey from Southern Launch, Ben Tett from Equatorial Launch Australia (ELA), Christopher De Luis from Australian Space Agency, and our amazing moderator Isobel Haddow from Space Industry Association of Australia. #southernspace #siaa #hypersonics #spacelaunch David Waterhouse Enrico Palermo

A spaceport in Canada... With Canadian space vehicles - and to launch Canadian payloads? ▶ Canada is the only G7 nation without sovereign launch capabilities. NordSpace is working on just that, an end-to-end space launch service, and for sovereign launch capabilities. “Canada's environment, economy, security and sovereignty are at stake. We have a decision to make as a nation. Will we remain spectators or will we aspire to be leaders in the new commercial space era?” — Rahul Goel, CEO of NordSpace (Full article on that in comment below.) #Canada #SpaceSector #SpaceLaunch

On the home stretch to the maiden flight of the European launcher #Ariane6 🚀, European industrial leaders met at the 11th Industrial Days at Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. in Lampoldshausen. Together with Toni Tolker-Nielsen and Martin Sion, our CEO Ulrich Scheib discussed the current state and perspective of European access to space. This access to space is important as it enables Europe's #sovereignty, economic growth, climate protection and scientific discoveries. Space provides access to resources such as water and metals that could be important for the future of our planet and forms the basis for future technologies and innovations that will improve our daily lives. This is why the launch of Ariane 6 is more important than ever for Europe, and we are keeping our fingers crossed for a successful launch this summer. Thank you to all colleagues for an exciting panel discussion moderated by Peter B. de SELDING. #rocketscience #spaceEnablers #maidenflight #climateprotection

🚀 The first launch of Ariane 6 is targeted for July 9, 2024 from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana, as announced this morning by ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher and members of the Task Force at the #ILA Berlin Air Show. With 30 missions in our order book, Ariane 6 has already gained the trust of institutional and commercial customers. We are preparing to make Ariane 6’s second launch by the end of the year, followed by a steady rise to around ten launches a year once we reach cruising speed. It represents a splendid challenge for ARIANESPACE and our partners. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of space #exploration and ensure Europe's autonomous access to #space. Airbus Defence and Space and Astroscale UK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaborative opportunities in the field of on-orbit servicing and space debris removal. The partnership aims to address the growing challenges of space sustainability and satellite longevity, with a particular focus on advancing the UK’s efforts in the on-orbit servicing and manufacturing industry and building a circular economy in space. Patrick Wood, head of Space Systems UK, Airbus Defence and Space, said: “With thousands of tonnes of space junk in orbit, ensuring space sustainability is vital to protect the space environment and the satellites which are key to our daily lives, providing navigation and global connectivity, climate monitoring and accurate weather forecasts.” Read more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eBA2zn4S #theengineer #space #sustainability #spacedebris #satellites

🚀 We have lift-off! A Scottish spaceport have finally received a green light to operate – and seven #rocket companies have lined up to use it 👇 Seven rocket companies are applying to launch from Scotland, the Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed as it gave the final green light to spaceport operations on the island of Unst at the tip of the #British Isles. The SaxaVord Spaceport UK was granted its range control licence, which will allow it to clear sea and airspace and monitor rockets in flight, on Thursday. The SaxaVord team is hoping to begin #testing this year and could make a full orbital launch in the autumn, in what would be the first vertical launch in #Europe. Colin Macleod, head of #UK space regulation at the #CAA, said there had already been widespread interest in lifting off from #Britain. Each rocket #company also needs its own licence before final permission for #launch is granted. “We have seven companies at different stages of the application process to launch from #Scotland,” he said at a briefing. “I wouldn’t necessarily say that they are all ready to launch, ready to operate. “Most companies who are looking to launch in Scotland and the #UK more widely haven’t launched anywhere else in the world. “They are developing their rockets and their missions in parallel to the regulatory approval that they need.” Success in #Shetland would be a huge boost for Britain’s space ambitions, following the catastrophic horizontal launch of Virgin Orbit from #Cornwall in January 2023, which led to the company filing for #bankruptcy. In the face of the growing challenge posed by space debris, European Space Agency - ESA’s Zero Debris Charter initiative represents a turning point. This charter symbolizes a collective commitment to more responsible management of space, focusing on practices such as extending the life of satellites, improving services in orbit, and above all, the adoption of a sustainable approach for the end-of-life of space equipment. Supported by major European industry players such as Thales Alenia Space Airbus Defence and Space or OHB SE but also by key emerging players such as Aldoria (former Share My Space) Exolaunch Gama or AIKO - Infinite ways to autonomy, this charter is a world first and we are proud to be among its signatories. At SpaceLocker, our mission is precisely to democratize access to space missions, while ensuring their sustainability. We do this through innovations such as satellite sharing and in-orbit maintenance, initiatives at the heart of our services. Adherence to the Zero Debris Charter was therefore a natural step for us, aligned with our vision of a space used in a more responsible and efficient way. #environment #charter #space #debris #spacelocker #sustainability #responsible #satellite #Newspace

Did you know that each day, every European relies on 40 satellites for navigation, communication, weather updates, and entertainment? At the #EuropeanSpaceConf today, I stressed that as space takes centre stage in our daily lives, securing European sovereignty in space is non-negotiable. . Europe has demonstrated that it has what it takes to deliver the world’s largest environment programme #Copernicus and pinpoint navigation with #Galileo. . It’s absolutely right that European flagship programmes be our next enabler but how we deliver space is the key question. . Europe needs to make long term strategic choices. Europeans want strategic autonomy but lack a common and coherent industrial policy or long-term budget visibility to achieve it. . To be disruptive in Europe we need all industry competencies - from the biggest to the smallest - to come together and stop fragmentation in the face of verticalisation from global competition.
