"Can Healthcare throw a Lifeline to the slowing Indian IT Industry " During periods of market decline, investors tend to pivot towards defensive stocks to safeguard their portfolios. The Indian IT sector seems to be following suit. A recent #EconomicTimes article highlights how healthcare is emerging as a significant growth opportunity for the Indian IT industry. This shift is not only enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accuracy in patient data management, but it’s also proving beneficial for IT companies grappling with stagnation in banking, retail, and high-tech sectors. Leading Indian IT companies such as #TCS, #Infosys, and #Wipro are ramping up their focus on healthcare. TCS’s Life Sciences and Healthcare vertical grew by 2%, now contributing 8% to its total revenue. Infosys, the second-largest IT giant in India, recorded its highest growth in healthcare after manufacturing, and plans to triple revenue from healthcare to $2 billion from the current $700 million. Wipro is also making strides, achieving over 7% year-on-year growth in its healthcare vertical. This growth is largely fueled by increased government spending in healthcare. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (#ABDM) has earmarked a ₹1,600 crore budget for a five-year rollout, while overall healthcare spending as a percentage of GDP continues to rise. Despite fragmented and fractional deal sizes in healthcare being less exciting than in other industries, recent consolidation in the sector and the growing adoption of #technology in healthcare facilities are unlocking new opportunities for IT companies. Key areas of focus for IT firms include #digitizing #healthcare to improve access to services, efficiency, and data security. This shift enables telemedicine, cost reductions, and enhanced patient engagement through digital tools, leading to better resource management and data-driven care. As healthcare digitization advances, it promises to create a more efficient, cost-effective, and patient-centric healthcare system—offering Indian IT firms a major growth avenue.

We got to meet Sandeep Dadlani the other day. Sandeep had been at Infosys for nearly 17 years, rising to be president, head of Americas, and head of the manufacturing, retail, CPG & logistics vertical. He was then chief digital officer at Mars, the $50-billion maker of pet food, and chocolates like M&M and Snickers, for five years. Two years ago, he joined the world’s largest healthcare company, #UnitedHealthGroup (#UHG), as chief digital & technology officer. UHG subsidiary Optum’s GCC in India is seen to be one of the fastest growing among GCCs. Sandeep told us he probably never had a more consequential job in a more consequential company, “because for the first time, I am helping, directly or indirectly, people live healthier lives.” He spoke about efforts to merge health insurance and healthcare in a way that makes healthcare providers focus on preventive care (like Narayana Health is trying to do here - a pilot is ongoing in Mysuru), and about the phenomenal work #Optum in India is doing towards transforming the US healthcare system. We have a story, based on a webinar we had in association with #IBM, on how important cybersecurity has become in the context of cloud and AI. Tushar Haralkar, Principal Pre-Sales Country Leader, Security Software, IBM India & South Asia Libesh K Babu, Associate VP, Federal Bank Mahen Gawade, Business Head – IAM, Inspira Enterprise India We have a summary of the first phase of the Technovate for India programme – in association with startup ecosystem builder #Talrop – in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana. In Chennai, Lakshmi Narayanan, former CEO of #Cognizant, spoke about the big effort around micro-credentials, and noted that even IIT Madras has begun a programme around these. In Bangalore, Aditya Mishra, MD & CEO of #CIEL HR, spoke about the methods of teaching that Dronacharya in Mahabharata employed, and said we need similar methods today in educational institutions – combining theory, with practical applications in different environments. In Hyderabad, Midhula Devabhaktuni narrated the fascinating story of how she and her husband Viswanadh Kandula returned from the US to India to found the electronics accessories brand #Mivi. Jones Joseph Ajeesh Satheesan Babu Padmanabhan, founder & chief knowledge officer at STEER World, writes about regenerative AI for a sustainable future. And, of course, we have Sunil Agarwal & Ian Baker’s superb cartoon :)

Listening to & reading the statements of so called Stalwarts of Corporate India heading huge MNC’s about Longer Work Days & Weeks, we can understand how Indian work ecosystem is shaped to create mere machines without subtlety and nuanced empathy towards humane needs of employees. These corporate companies are driving people towards becoming mechanical to the utmost and the same has been dissipated across generations with people running with more and more speed towards an unknown and vague goal called SUCCESS. #wakeupindia #mentalhealthmatters #lnt #infosys #worklifebalance
