Mark your calendars for the upcoming 3rd International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA-2023) which is scheduled to take place in Lusaka, Zambia from 27 to 30 November 2023. At this year's conference, Africa CDC & WHO will hold a side event on our Joint Emergency Preparedness & Response Action Plan (JEAP). The JEAP brings together Africa CDC and WHO under a common vision and strategy for Emergency Preparedness & Response (EPR) in Africa. Overall, it sets the vision and proposed solutions to addressing long-standing EPR challenges on the continent, the steps that are being taken to ensure that the joint activities for collaboration areas achieve their intended impact and how we work together. Africa CDC and WHO has earlier this year co-developed a detailed action plan outlining the joint activities we are conducting within each of the collaboration areas, and the institutional capabilities needed to coordinate joint activities and ensure effective decision making and management within the Partnership. During our side event on the margins of CPHIA-2023 (which will take place on the evening of 28 November), Africa CDC & WHO will not only update participants on achievements to date related to our JEAP but also jointly launch a multi-stakeholder 5-year strategic plan to strengthen Public Health Emergency Operations Centres (PHEOCs) in the African continent. With Africa standing at a crossroad, the active involvement of the private sector is crucial for enhancing surveillance, governance, financing, and pandemic management, to shape the continent's health systems. We are #pleased to announce the signing of our latest Memorandum of Understanding (#MoU) between Bloom Public Health and the West African Institute of Public Health (#WAIPH). This agreement was signed in Lusaka, #Zambia, on the sidelines of the Conference on Public Health in Africa (#CPHIA) 2023 on November 28, 2023. This collaboration is evidence of both organizations' #dedication to maintaining continental #advancements spearheaded by the Africa Union and its health agency, the Africa CDC and promoting #publichealth in the area. Through program implementation, research initiatives, and capacity-building, this ground-breaking partnership promises to transform public health across the #African continent and bring it into compliance with the new Public Health Order. The CEO of Bloom Public Health, Professor Chimezie Anyakora expressed his happiness about collaborating with #WAIPH, saying that it could open up new opportunities for capacity building, innovation, and research as well as greatly aid in the continent's efforts to meet public health goals. The DG/CEO of the West African Institute of Public Health (#WAIPH), Dr Francis O., also expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating its significance as a crucial step forward for public health in West Africa and beyond.
