🌍Key Insights from the EGIAN Meeting in Brussels 🌍 On 20 & 21 November 2024, we had the privilege of attending the EGIAN meeting in Brussels. As a proud member of EGIAN, Parker Russell International was honoured to join many esteemed accounting networks and associations for two days of valuable discussions on critical issues shaping the profession and some of the accoutning standards. The meeting featured contributions from distinguished speakers, including Lee White, CEO of IFAC, and covered several key topics: IFAC Transformation – Updates on IFAC’s evolving operational model and engagement with global firms and networks. Sustainability Reporting and Assurance (ISA 5000) – Focused discussions on limited assurance reports and auditing ESG disclosures, with insights from Wolfgang Boehm, member of the ISA 5000 Taskforce of IAASB. ESG Reporting – Exploring the increasing importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and the critical role of auditors in ensuring the reliability of ESG information. Private Equity and the Profession – Examining the implications of private equity involvement on governance, ethics, independence, and quality. Culture and Governance – Discussing how networks and alliances are addressing market consolidation and evolving professional expectations. Support for SMPs/SMEs – Insights into IFAC’s initiatives to strengthen smaller practices globally. Special thanks to Professor Dr Jans Poll, Chairman of EGIAN, for leading thought-provoking discussions on quality, ethics, and the profession's future amidst significant market transformations. This meeting underscored the increasing prominence of ESG reporting and the profession's vital role in ensuring accountability and transparency. 🌍 December 2024 IESBA Meeting Highlights: Key Areas of Focus! 🌍 The IESBA’s recent meeting in NYC tackled several critical topics shaping the future of ethics and independence standards. Key highlights include: 🌱 Sustainability Standards – Board approval of the International Ethics Standards for Sustainability Assurance (IESSA) and related revisions to the International Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants (including International Independence Standards) (the Code), setting a global benchmark for ethical behavior and independence in sustainability reporting and assurance. 📊 Using the Work of an External Expert – Approval of revisions to the Code, establishing an ethical framework for evaluating the competence, capabilities and objectivity of external experts used by professional accountants and sustainability assurance practitioners. 🏢 Firm Culture & Governance (FCG) – The Board also approved a project plan to develop a new standard on accounting firm culture and governance, focusing, among other matters, on ethical leadership and accountability within accounting firms. The Board marked the departure of two esteemed members, Laurie Callahan Endsley, IESBA Vice Chair, and Andrew (Andy) Mintzer, CPA, CGMA, CFE. Their dedicated service and contributions have helped significantly shape the IESBA’s work. #IESSA approved!!! 🎈This morning, in New York, the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA)'s Ethics Standards for Sustainability Reporting and Assurance (#IESSA) and the Ethics Standards for the Use of the Work of External Experts were approved by the Board! 🧩 With this approval, the #IESBA took a game-changing step for global capital markets and financial integrity, These standards fill a missing gap in the global framework 🌍, unlocking a future of reliable #sustainability🍀 information. It’s a massive win for #accountability, #transparency, and #trust in a world that desperately needs all three. 🛤️This didn’t happen overnight—it’s the result of an incredible journey powered by inclusiveness, collaboration, and daring innovation. Together, we’ve built a framework that equips practitioners to deliver #sustainability information with unshakable integrity and independence.
