Distractions on the road and in the car can have serious consequences for drivers behind the wheel. When we think about distracted driving, we often think about mobile phones. Distracted driving, however, is so much broader and more complex than that and the work needed to tackle this growing issue requires a systems-based approach. According to the Federal Highway Administration, distracted driving accounts for over 3,000 fatal crashes and over 300,000 injury crashes in the United States. Drivers are more alert and focused on safe driving when not distracted by mobile devices. One way to prevent distracted driving is to use your phone's “Do Not Disturb” feature, or put your cell phone in the trunk, glove box, or back seat of your vehicle until you arrive at your destination.
