NHS England published guidance last week for integrated care boards and virtual ward providers, identifying the main diagnostic requirements for the delivery of effective virtual wards. Below are some of the key highlights: ✔️Timely access to diagnostics is key to enabling high-quality personalised care, with the clinician able to accurately assess, treat and monitor a patient and proactively include them in shared decision-making about their care. ✔️All access to diagnostics requires good underpinning governance, and all virtual wards, no matter their structure or setup, must have standard operating procedures in place for diagnostics.  ✔️Ensure access to appropriate in vitro (IVD) point of care testing (PoCT) devices to enhance care on virtual wards, accelerate clinical decision-making, initiating treatment sooner, and optimise healthcare professional time reducing the necessity for repeat home visits. Keep It Simple: Lessons from 11 Months of Medical Vehicle Builds In the past 11 months, I’ve learned the value of keeping medical vehicle builds simple. Every project starts with challenging our customers with deep questions: “Do you really need this feature?” One customer’s story struck a chord with me: “From the time we ordered our unit until it arrived, our needs changed, and we had to redesign our unit before we could use it.” Really? These things are expensive!! During our last demo trip, we had 34 nurses, doctors, and other health providers tour our unit. The phrase I heard repeatedly was: “This is nice, it is so simple, anybody could use it for almost any application!” Adhering to the Lean principle of “fix what bugs you,” we aim to get it right the first time. This approach minimizes issues and maximizes what works, helping healthcare providers focus on improving lives. Thank you to all healthcare providers!
